Do you trust Alleva to make the best hire?

Coach hiring is such a crapshoot that I wouldn't assume a great AD would necessarily make a great hire.

I honestly don't see what our AD saw in Les Miles. His resume was very unimpressive before LSU. Yet, it turned out pretty good.

Best hire, is that ever a quantifiable conclusion to a number of fairy tale scenarios?

I'm a UK fan but was talking about this very thing earlier with my dad while visiting him. We were discussing the Michigan hire and how we think they get Harbaugh. If not, would Les turn them down a 3rd time? If he does in fact go to his Alma Mater, would Sumlin be on the short list down y'all's way?

Contrary to some LSU fans, Michigan never offered Miles the JOB

Cant turn down what was never offered. And wont be offered this time if DB stays as AD. UM BoR meeing tomorrow and DB situation will come up. With DB out and Carr faction less influential, maybe an offer will come this time once the Harbaughs are out of the picture and no "unseen" candidate emerges. This will only increase should LSU finish with a couple upset wins and much improved play like Fla game. Question is given the impediments are removed and money is similar, would Miles make the jump?? Chances of greater success and NC are much greater here but would chance of resurrecting his Alma Mater with less pressure to the point of making it a relevant program that can attract future top notch coaches be too much to pass up?? An LSU legacy of multiple NC versus one of bringing back his Alma Mater to prominence and Bo status?? I think he choses the former but who knows what he will do with a REAL UM offer and the feel of being wanted and needed by "Momma"??

This is correct. Miles has never been offered the Michigan job...he wanted an offer, and would have probably taken it if offered, but that offer never came in either 2007 or 2010. He tried to use the media and Michigan fans against Brandon in 2010 ("Miles will take Michigan job if offered"), but Brandon didn't flinch and the PR maneuver failed, although Miles is getting the eventual last laugh on that one with Brandon probably paying the ultimate price for siding with Carr and against the wishes of Michigan supporters.

And the only way he potentially would get an offer this time is if Dave Brandon is fired. Even then, he probably still wouldn't get an offer, but it becomes more of a possibility than it is with Brandon in charge. There is bad blood between Brandon/Carr and Miles. Carr holds a grudge with Miles for the situation with Gary Moeller's wife, and the feud between Brandon and Miles intensified with the 2010 PR game of chess.

A good portion of Michigan's fanbase wants and has always wanted Miles, but politics have stood in the way of it ever coming to fruition. Look for Michigan to hire one of the Harbaughs or Greg Schiano. Only after that group says No (and Schiano won't say no) would Miles potentially come into the picture.

I really like Miles and I'm super appreciative of his accomplishments at LSU, but make no mistake - miles would have and will bolt for Michigan in a heartbeat if ever offered that job. That offer has just never came......yet.

Not sure one of the Harbaughs will leave the NFL at this point. Would Shiano be the "non Michigan" name that all could get behind? I'm thinking the UM situation may be like the Ark situation last year with a candidate no one even thought about emerging and getting the job. Will have to see who the new AD will be should DB get canned and what coaching ties that person has. Should be interesting to watch.

Alleva would hire Gruden, thus endearing him to Rantards.

If they were to choose Schiano, that's just another crappy hire IMO.

DB is a goner at UM though so it won't be him making the decision.

I think most people want Miles to stay with a few tweaks. Personally, I think those need to come on the defensive side of the ball. I don't mind a strong running game with a game manager style QB and explosive receivers. I think an overhaul on the D side of the ball is needed, just my opinion and probably not shared by 95% of the fan base.

Anyone really think Miles would be successful at Michigan? Urban would own him on game day

Absolutely he would...definitely much better than what they've had up there for what seems like forever.

Miles isn't leaving IMO (he won't get offered), but if he were to leave/Retire in the next few years, LSUs list of candidates needs to include:

-Jimbo Fisher
-Jim Mora
-Gary Patterson
-Greg Schiano
-Rich Rodriguez
-David Shaw
-Art Briles
-Mark Dantonio

I make Fisher tell me no 10 times before I call anyone else... he knows the SEC...he knows recruiting...He knows LSU...he runs a similar overall philosophy to what we already have in place...and he obviously knows how to take a program from merely good to Champions.

names I do NOT want to see on any list (disasters-waiting-to-happen that I'd rather see happen at Bama or A&M): Bo Pelini, Dabo Swinney, Kirby Smart
