LSU officials began a 16-month long renovation project for the Huey P. Long Field House this year, aimed to be completed in 2022.

Assistant Vice President for Planning, Design and Construction Roger Husser said the building’s age and lack of consistent renovations throughout its history make these renovations all the more necessary.

“The original building was built in the 1920s and the building has never undergone a full and complete renovation,” Husser said. "This project is to completely renovate the building from inside and out, top to bottom, a full scale renovation of the historic building.”

Husser said it is a $25 million project funded by the state legislature and private funds.

“We’re seeking additional private funds that would allow us to enhance part of the project that we otherwise would not be able to do,” Husser said.

One change that will come with the renovations is the removal of the pool to make more space for student activities, Favaloro said.

“Pools are very expensive to maintain, and there’s additional options to using this space other than a pool,” Falvaloro said. "What we hope to do is renovate it into a common area, a gathering space, as well as outdoor classroom use.”

The majority of my classes for my major were in that building.

It was a complete shite hole and we didn't have A/C half the time from 2014-2018

Cool to see this is finally happening.

Saw the plans for this years ago and I had doubts that it would ever come true.

Would have been cool to have this when I lived in the dorms nearby

The Master Plan includes plans to tear down Lockett and the library. Not sure about the other buildings.

Not sure if that will ever actually happen though knowing LSU

NOT renovating that space into an update pool is an absolute WASTE.
that facility is so very unique & should be used as intended (while still safe for today's liabilities/insurance).

also not in the future masterplan but we need the rest of the funding for a new one

Natatorium

it is what it is and just got a reno in the last 10-15 years i believe

PMAC

Isn't going anywhere for a while.

My idea would be to move Bernie Moore out by the river, then knock down old bernie moore, build the new PMAC there and turn the existing PMAC footprint into a green space connecting all your athletic venues in that area. would be awesome for gameday event

Move it with Bernie Moore

I swam in that pool during orientation in the summer of 1994!! An old friend from gradeschool/HS and I decided to bring a flask of bourbon and get drunk and explore campus on our own. We ended up at the Huey P Long Fieldhouse. It was like going back in time to some old bathhouse building in the 20s or 30s. You could visualize how awesome it must have been when new. It also had a oldschool 2-3' elevated diving board if I remember right. Gainers while drunk...check!

Very cool building, but crumbling. What a day that was!!

That pool is where I learned to swim. I'm also jealous from hearing my parents stories. Apparently they had some insane rugby parties there in the late 70's.

As long as they don't touch John M Parker Coliseum, I'm good.

It is absolutely my favorite edifice in BR.

What's wrong with Carl Maddux? Have you been in there recently? It's looking pretty fly.

This. The pool is/was awesome. I got to swim workouts there several times when I was at LSU and it was always such a unique experience.

This would look great but parking would be even more of a bitch. Might have to throw some parking garages in that plan too
