Zach Watson would do great things in the 9 hole where Mainieri has continuously put emphasis on turning the lineup over with speed. It'll also put Zach in more stress free hitting situations at the bottom of the order as he's still adjusting to SEC caliber arms.

Deichmann needs to be protected by one of the big three in Freeman, Robertson, and Duplantis. Teams are getting to Deichmann and they see the light at the end of the tunnel with a 5 or 6 pitch walk which doesn't hurt them as nobody to date can drive Greg in on a day to day basis.

Robertson and Duplantis are almost interchangeable in this format.

Papierski simply shifts up a spot and this keeps speed a tad more spread out.

It's a change of pace but would shake things up a bit with the current 9. What say you?

1. Freeman R
2. Robertson R
3. Deichmann L
4. Duplantis L
5. Slaughter R
6. Jordan R
7. Smith L
8. Papierski S
9. Watson R

I like this lineup.

I just think it's kind of a sad state of affairs when we have to count on Duplantis to afford Deichmann the most protection.

I said this early in the year and got blasted probably will more because he isn't hitting right now but I would put Kramer behind Deichmann. I think both would benefit from that spot even tho Kramer isn't your typical 4 hole this lineup is questionable enough right now where unconventional might work.

Freeman
Dup
Deichmann
Robertson
Smith
Whoever DH
Slaughter or Pap
Pap or Slaughter
Watson

Slaughter and Pap is just a preference on what the coach likes out of his 7 or 8. Slaughter definitely needs to be down the lineup right now and I think he would see a lot of fastballs in the 8 hole when you look at the contact and speed guys behind him. Could maybe go real crazy and bat him 9. He would see good pitches with the top 3 behind him. He is struggling with offspeed right now.

Truly.

Slaughter will be that deep threat soon but right now I don't see a point in putting the biggest strike out risk immediately after Greg.

I'd like to see them throw a little wrench in that first four.

1. Robertson
2. Duplantis
3. Deichmann
4. Smith
5. Freeman
6. Slaughter
7. Jordan
8. Papierski
9. Watson

Duplantis
Freeman
Deichmann
Robertson
Slaughter
Smith
Jordan
Watson
Papierski

5-8 can be just about any order, to be honest.

ETA: I wouldn't have a problem with Reid getting a start at 3rd, or even DH, either. In that case you slide him into the 5 hole and move everyone else down accordingly.

I'd rather see coomes catching and batting 5 hole than have pap in the line up. At some point, his defensive skills are negligible to his lack of consistent hitting and you have to make a change. You play defensive with your lineup starting in the 7th inning. You don't play offense with your lineup starting in the 7th. I'd also take slaughter out of the lineup for someone else. After last weekend it just seems to me that he isn't quite ready to play with the big boys yet. There are multiple moves you could make to change the lineup if you take him out. Personally, I like diechmann at 1st, jordan in left or right, and Romero dh. Obviously you'd keep Watson and duplantis in the lineup. That's just my opinion.

My lineup would be as follows:

1) Freeman 4
2) Duplantis 8
3) Diechmann 3
4) Romero dh
5) Coomes 2
6) Robertson 6
7) Smith 5
8) Jordan 9
9) Watson 7

Maybe slide Slaughter to 7th and bump the other 2 up.

Any lineup that has Papierski starting is null and void in my opinion.

If he moves Watkins to the 9 hole, I think my unconventional move would be to hit Deichman 2nd. Put Robertson and Duplantis behind him.

I want Dup ahead of Deichmann in any lineup. He is the only one of the three to get on base consistently.

Pap will play more games than he won't. He will definitely be in the lineup for every Lange start.

I think you are missing the point. I think everybody knows that pap is going to start pretty much every game, barring any unforeseen injury or extreme illness, for the rest of his career at LSU. The OP asked for an opinion. It is of some people's opinion that pap needs to be out of the lineup, including this dude.

Trey does have speed, but he hasn't been hitting well lately.

Should have been confirmed during the preseason physicals.

That's my assumption but with contact lenses and allergy season in full effect I hope it's not the latter.
