On Tuesday we learned from Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork the SEC could maintain its 8-game conference schedule with a model that includes only one permanent rival.

LSU and Tennessee aren’t necessarily rivals, but neither team has a top rival outside of Alabama. Arkansas and Texas A&M have become manufactured rivals for the Tigers, while Ole Miss has been a strong secondary rival. Even so, the Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State is worth maintaining. Tennessee’s main rivals are Alabama and Georgia. These two passionate fanbases and winning programs are a good comparable fit.

Auburn-Bama
Ole Miss-State
A&M- Arkansas
LSU- Tennessee
Texas-OU
Florida-Georgia
Mizzou-Kentucky
South Carolina-Vandy

I still think we would get A&M, with Arkansas getting Mizzou

I don’t think A&M is manufactured. Both fanbases hate one another. A&M should be LSU’s permanent. Tennessee can have Kentucky and Arkansas and Missouri can have one another.

I agree with you, but that manufactured line is coming from a Longhorn write. If any series is manufactured it is Arkansas/Missouri

I would love it. Aside from Athens and Lexington, Knoxville is arguably the best SEC town and a beautiful road trip.

Give me the real UT.

It's good to be a Tiger in Texas these days...

Should be A&M

Also, why would TN not have Kentucky (an already established rivalry)

Arky can have the “manufactured” rivalry with MIZ

Look I don’t think it’s fair for anyone to have Vandy, but they are in the same state so give them to Tennessee.
I’d be fine with
South Carolina-Kentucky
Tenn-Vandy
ArKansas-Missouri
LSU-A&M
I hope they go 3-6 model.

UT and Vandy are rivals

That would leave

LSU and South Carolina

I live in Tennessee so I’d love it but I’m one of the few. Anything to get the taste of that disaster from last season out of my mouth.

I could get down with that. With Beamer there, it would make for a decent game and it seems like we never play them. I don't know that I could ever hate them but it's gonna be a solid WBB rival for many years too.

I'd prefer Ole Miss, but I understand their linked with Mississippi State.

That said, I'd gladly take it. I like Knoxville. Haven't been there since the Jamarcus Russell game - '06 I believe.

They're a blue blood, historic powerhouse.

I would think they would come up with some combination of the traditional SEC Big 6 playing each other

In that scenario I would think we would see

LSU-Auburn
Bama-TN
Georgia-Florida.

Then the rest could be

OU-UT
MSU-OM
Arkansas-A&M
S Carolina-Kentucky
Vandy-Mizzou

I think Tennessee and Kentucky are strong rivals historically.

Permanent opponents should not exist.
