Let me explain it another way. LSU was considered a running team and averaged about 22 passes a game the first 8 games of the year, with Lee and the other QB's splitting time. In the end, LSU averaged 20 passes per game for a 14 game schedule which includes some notables where they passed 7,10 and 14 times a game. 25 passes a game isn't airing it out and I certainly don't think it's beyond the realm of expectation.

The offense wasn't required to do much this season, I don't expect next to be a carbon copy. LSU will throw it more than last, and 25 a game isn't even a questionable number. Miles himself as alluded to the fact that the offense will be different (not that I take everything he says as gospel) but considering who will be behind center, I am positive that LSU will throw more than 20 times per game on average.

I understand what' you're saying.

All in all, I think if Mett can show he's at least decent and opposing teams have to legitimately respect the pass, there won't be many 9 in the box defenses we saw this past season.

IMO, give those RB's more holes, we can see even more yardage in the running game.

Damn, just thinking about it, I'm excited as can be. I think the running game improves significantly with Mett's presence alone.

I believe in order for the running game to improve, the passing game has to open up a bit. We definitely saw how the lack of a vertical game hurt last Monday.

We have a better chance of running the option with Mett.

JJ never had 30 attempts

How many more times did JJ drop back to pass and just take off running for no reason? He might have thrown it 30 times if he could have seen the field better than a 4th year Freshman

And how is this going to beat Alabama's bevy of 5-star DBs, LBs and DL? Alabama did a total beatdown of LSU and has outrecruited LSU every year. What is so difficult to understand? And BTW they have a 5-star plus coach while we have a high school reject coach.

I just want us to take advantage of what the defense is giving the offense. There were times this season when teams were stacking the box we would still run bc we knew they couldn't stop it and bc we were afraid of turning it over. However, if you play a team like UGA or Bama and they are crowding the line, then we should be able to throw the ball on them. And I don't mean vertical 50 yard bombs, but Mett should be able to throw in the middle/intermediate parts of the field.

it should be around 50-50. Having a passing threat will make the running game more effective. We may rush for more yards next year than last year.

Yes it will. Until LSU proves they can put a legit passing threat at QB, every team will do this. Defenses were doing this with Lee during the first part of the season and we ate them alive with play action passes to Randle.

LSU needs that deep threat to open up the offense, without a deep threat it's not hard to stop this offense.

not only balance but you gotta start gettin the wide recievers much more engaged or no one worth a damn (wide recievers) is gonna wanna come here and waste their talent. Same thing goes for QB. QB's wanna throw the damn ball. Miles MUST have promised Mett and Rivers a more prolific passing attack once the JJ/JL saga was over with...otherwise why even come here to showcase your talents? Most, if not ALL, of these top rated recruits view a college program as the stepping stone to the next level of goin to the league.

Hand off up the middle and short side option 15 consecutive plays. Little need to pass.

Bring back the wishbone and we would never need to pass.

MILES KNOWS OFFENSE !!!

It may happen a few times early in the season

but mett should be able to audible out of obvious running up the middle plays to take advantage of the defense.

My big worry isn't him making mistakes on his reads, but pissing Miles off in doing so.

I'd like to see a balance attack in the first 3 quarters. Then grind it out in the 4th. As you get about 64 plays a game (16 per quarter), the split would be 8/8 (run/pass) for the first 3 quarter. If we go with 12/4 in the 4th, that would be 36/28 on the game, but hopefully Mett would only be in for the first 3 quarters. Allowing for a few sacks and/or scrambles (say 3) that would give Mett 21 attempts per game.

So at the end of the year (14 games ) I'd expect his passing stats to look like:
195 completions on 300 attempts (65%) for 2500 yards (12.8 ypc) with 28 TD's and 8 Interceptions.

IDK, too much cool-aid?

Wow. Bama must have beaten us every game since Saban has arrived. How could anyone beat that? ...What? It's only been lopsided in one game? Oh I see... STFU!

I hope this flamer is now on hiatus.

30 is high, 30+ is much too high
reduce 30 by 10-15%
mix in a good running game.

25-30 with around 10 play action and 3-4 being deep ball play action
Would also like to see second and first downs be hurry-up at times

He's gunna throw 20-25 times per game... But he's only gunna be a "manager" of the offense
