Saban ran out on us at the last minute and the pickings were slim?

I get that this is a bitch about Miles thread, but he was a good hire given the circumstances.

1. Saban left on Christmas Day. Lots of coaches were off the market by then.

2. Les did a good job at Okie State. 28-21 seems unspectacular until you look at the fact that OSU had finished with a losing record 11 out of 12 years since Barry Sanders left town...

2-2 against Stoops at OU

This is far from the only reason he was hired, although it was a consideration. And they forget that those OU teams were Bama like powerhouses. Both of those teams were top 3 teams for most of the season and finished top 5. 2001 team that he beat in the last game of the regular season would have played Colorado for the Big 12 Championship and the winner would have played Miami in the BCSCG instead of Nebraska. The 2002 team was ranked #1 ahead of Miami for several weeks. Those weren't just upsets, they were monumental surprises.

People don't understand how terrible the OSU program was when he took over.

OSU had only been to ONE BOWL GAME in the previous TWELVE SEASONS before Miles was hired. He took them to three straight bowls and won Big 12 Coach of the Year at a time when Stoops was the Saban of college football and Mack Brown wasn't far behind.

He was a very solid hire, although I admit at the time I was unimpressed and more enamored with the big name guys. Looking back, I can easily see why he hit it off so well with Skip in the interview. Their personalities were a great fit, especially compared to someone like Petrino.

Yet they were still a 1 LOSS team and STOMPED the team that beat them.

We were lucky and you know it, it is what it is.

OK State was absolutely nothing for a very long time prior to Les going there. Only then were they capable of beating Oklahoma and they did repeatedly. He was the turn around there.
Mike Gundy became OC and only then did they start beating Oklahoma and having success.

bullshite. The rant says Miles doesn't let OCs call plays. That was Les Miles' offense.

WAIT A SECOND...We've been being told non-stop on the Rant that it doesn't matter who CLM's OC is...he runs the show and won't let them have control. YET, now Mike Gundy gets all the credit for CLM's success at Oklahoma State, and Miles deserves NONE. UNBELIEVABLE!

To recap the Miles haters creed.....
Anything that ever happened good, someone else is responsible.
Anything that ever went wrong, It's all CLM's fault!

But Les doesn't let his OCs coach and totally takes over game planning and play calling??

That's why nothing will ever change no matter what forever and ever so help me Todd.

The Rant told me so.

Saban at LSU went 8-4, 10-3, 8-5, 13-1, 9-3
Miles came in and battling all the 1st year adversity, went 11-2. Miles has won 10+ games 7 times in his 11 seasons, with a high win total of 13 and low of 8.

Exactly, Saban was widely considered a star and had one of the best reputations among young coaches without a doubt. I was shocked when I heard his name and the most excited I have ever been over every coaching announcement in any sport in LA in my life.

Don't get when people pretend he was a nobody. Supports the Pussi-Tiger agenda I suppose, but I prefer to keep it real.

Most people will not tell you this but most people were unimpressed with the Saban hire at the time. Amazing how people recollect it as a great hire at the then.

This is obviously true because Saban picked LSU over the the NFLL.
