I'm glad they won and I'll take a win however they can get it, but damn most of the game they played sloppy. So many turnovers against the press, Martin still trying to jack up 3's like he's a 50% shooter (1/20 on the year so far from 3), Mickey was in foul trouble early and didn't play most of the game, JJ didn't make many adjustments when the team was getting murdered by WV full court pressure, etc.

I'm still trying to figure out how in the hell did they end up winning this game b/c if you just look at the game w/o keeping the score WV was the better looking team.

Because WVU shot horribly. Decent percentage and they would've killed us.

Not complaining though

Actually outside of the turnovers they created i thought LSU looked vastly superior to WVU. The fact that they got so many easy buckets is the only reason they didnt get run out of their own gym.

Yep, they layed a ton of bricks. But hey give TQ credit, that dude willed this team to a win and a HUGE shot and free throws by Hornsby

lsu lost one major battle last night, and it was by their own doing. They had 22+ turnovers v/s like 12.

Lsu DOMINATED the game in every other fashion.

The difference was WVU shooting 34% and LSU 46%. No matter how many turnovers you get, you have to score. They didn't do that.

I understand much of what you said, but not this one:

"JJ didn't make many adjustments when the team was getting murdered by WV full court pressure, etc."

I saw one key adjustment in that we started in the 2nd half to inbound the ball to a flasher in the middle - typically a big - who then pivoted and ditributed the ball to the guard, typically Gray. Also, better spacing in 2nd half so that it was more difficult for WV to trap out of their rather simple man press. In the first half, you had a guy running parallel to Gray "helping" him which actually allowed the defender guarding the extra to trap more easily. Didn't see that as much in the second half.

Ball security was a huge issue. Huggins teams are allowed to be more physical with hand checks thou.

Exactly. I remember thinking in the first half that this doesn't look like a fluke. We were the more talented team.

Benching Gray for Patterson early in the 2nd half was critical, imo. Looked like Gray got the message to calm his arse down when he re-entered the game.

I think you are way off base here. First off, we outrebounded one of the top rebounding teams in the country (by 12 no less), got good shots when we didn't turn it over and matched their aggression throughout the game.

WVU's strategy all year has been press all game, force teams into turnover to get easy buckets. They have not been a good halfcourt offensive team, and LSU's D was strong last night and didn't give up many easy looks in the half court.

We had 20 turnovers with 16 minutes to go and ended up with 24 - that was the difference in the game. Once Johnny made some changes on the press break and emphasized passing over the press versus dribbling through the press - we cut down on turnovers, got better looks and took control of the game.

Some cluth shooting by Quarterman and Hornsby and some real toughness and togetherness shown by the whole team. Huge win and great to see.

This was not a "WVU lost the game", it was "LSU won the game". Credit to Johnny and the guys.

I noticed this too. Too many times Gray tried to split the double team. He got benched and TQ was good about passing it over the press usually back to the inbounder (Martin).

Once Gray came back he did the same thing.

Id actually say a lot of it was WV's doing.

It was a great win for sure...but you'll lose 99 % of the time with 24 turnovers, much less 24 on the road. Got to clean it up.

yeah you have to credit WVU there. But LSU won on the boards and shot much better than WVU did. The turnover stat is glaring but if you look at the other facets of the game LSU was clearly superior.
