I was real excited for him coming out of high school. I don't think I've heard his name on here in over 2 years.

Hard to believe that. I remember him being a stud.

Some people who watched him in HS said he had the talent but not the drive, and took a lot of plays off. Maybe competition will light a fire for hi.

He's only going into his RS Soph year. He's got at least 4 and possibly 5 guys in front of him. 2 are seniors, 2 are NFL bound juniors, the other is Rasco. He's in line for PT next year as long as he keeps progressing. He'll probably see some time this year as Haley likes to have 6 available DEs.

I was really hoping he would be converted into a middle linebacker coming out of HS. Hate to see the kid get virtually lost at DE during his time here.

I watched him play two full games in high school his senior year. One game he played MLB, the other DE. He didn't hit anyone in either game. There was not a softer player on either team.

He ran down a couple of plays from behind showing good speed and athleticism. It seemed clear to me that he did not enjoy contact. Physical tools are great, but football requires a lot more than tools.

I predicted then that he would never be a contributor as a defensive player. I hope he proves me wrong and becomes a great tiger player.

I'm pretty sure he tried him there initially and it wasn't working out. He seems more like a natural DE if he can ever put it together.

I remember your exact post and it seems like you were spot on in your analysis. But he is still young so hopefully the light turns on

He is a red-shirt sophomore and didn't play at all last season. Not everyone can come straight out of high school and have an impact at a very deep position on one of the best defensive lines in the nation.

We're going to lose four defensive ends after this year so we'll need him next year.

I was always curious what he would do. I really hoped they would keep him at linebacker. I'm not saying moving him to end was the wrong move but it would have been interesting to see two guys like him and mingo running around at linebacker. I think mingo has the skills to play lb but never really saw maclin play so no clue.

I agree I wish we could keep him at LBer

But with Mingo & Montgomery leaving after this year, we will need the depth

Yep. After this season, Rasco takes one DE spot, while Maclin, Jordan Allen and Danielle Hunter are in the mix for the other (all will get substantial reps).
