Wait what ? I like Toonces !

I's say you're a true fan if you sat in a frog strangling rain in Tiger Stadium, in 1979 for LSU vs Bama. Bama won 3-0 but I stayed for the whole game !

My grandmother got a masters from LSU, my dad played football in the late 80s, my mom went to school there, I got my degree from there, my sister goes there now. We pay our money, buy the merchandise and cheer for our tigers. Some levels of fandom transcend normal definitions, as my family has truly a special relationship with the school.

how can one measure the amount of fandom one possesses opposed to another?

On a scale of 1-10, you take me.

I'm a 10.0.

Measure everyone else from there.

If you value tailgating more than the game, you are not an LSU football fan.

I hate to break the news, but MANY people are bigger fans of tailgating than the actual game.

LSU football (and football in the South, in general) is a major cultural event. Many people, like me, love the actual football on the field, but a whole lot more may like the football but love the atmosphere and overall experience of game day.

They're out there supporting LSU football in their own way, just not the way you want them too.

Sorry, but "true fans" actually want to stay for the entire game! They will always root for the team and support them no matter what.

Not a football fan, then. They are LSU tailgating fans or maybe just tailgating fans. They may like to tailgate wherever there's a tailgate. Now, some fans tailgate and then go watch the game on TV. That's different from not watching at all or leaving early like in the 3rd quarter )unless you brought a young child with you or someone who can't stay for health reasons, of course).

It's not decided upon what anyone wants someone to do. It's a definition.
