...to other well-known RBs, either SEC or even nationally?

That's a pretty cool, interesting stat; I can't imagine there are too many RBs who got to 1,000 yds averaging 10 yds/carry, so Guice (1,000 yds/113 carries=8.9YPC) has got to be in some rare company with few people ahead of him....

C'mon, some of you stat-guru nerds ought to know how to look it up!

Frank Gore ran for like 9 ypc as freshman and got a lotta yards as a backup on that 01 Miami team. seemed like every run was a long one. he's probably up there.

I think Marshall Faulk had a fast first 1,000 yards. I think he had over 500 yards in his first two games.

Frank Gore had 62 carries for 562 yards his first year, and 89 for 468 his second. So it took him about 140 or so to break 1000.

Faulk had 1429 yards on 201 carries as a freshman (7.1 ypc). I don't know if the box scores for the early games would still be available, but my guess is he was well over 100 carries to break 1000 yards.

Here's sports-reference.com's single season YPC leaders in college football history. Note that only 8 players in history have over 9 yards per carry in a full season, and three of those are taking place this season, so they will likely drop by season's end.

It looks like Guice does not have the national record for fastest to 1000, though. A few players likely stand in his way. Check out Percy Harvin and Leon Burton; both are possibly/probably faster to 1000.

Is it too much trouble to type "Guice"?

Let's not start calling this guy DG5. Just no. Derrius Guice is his name.

No, but #1, the whole sentence "how does Derrius Guice being the fastest LSU running back to reach 1,000 yards compare to..." wouldn't fit in the subject block, so I abbreviated-

And #2, how do you know I wasn't making fun of all the people too lazy to type Leonard and/or Fournette, and using LF7?

And I want to pronounce it "Juice" SO badly. It would just be cool.

I guess that's better than my grandpa calling him Geese. Yea, like the bird.

Thanks for the link, kylesch87 - you're right, that looks like the only two, Harvin & Burton.

So, 3rd fastest ever to 1,000yds is not too shabby
