know Daniels hasn’t always had a clean pocket, but last night he had time. Are receivers getting open? I’d kind of like to see him take more chances downfield and trust the receivers to make plays.

He’s not a pocket QB and that’s what this board has to accept. He’s not what you want him to be and never will.

He’s a runner who can throw a little bit. As much as that sucks for LSU WRs and their NFL paydays, but it is what it is. The faster that this board accepts that Daniels is a running QB with below average downfield vision, the better for your stress and patience.

Tell Daniels he’s only allowed to run 5 times per half. On all other called passes he must throw the ball forward.

Consistent pocket. Actually looked much better last night. Offensive line coming together

Daniel’s is limited.

Not much for pre snap reads. Not much for seeing the field. Not an accurate arm down field.

Great athlete.

At some point nussmeir or Howard has to step up.

Probably not this year

He has three years plus three games of not reading the field or finding open guys.

Unlikely to change

Being able to throw the ball a little bit is pushing things. And as far as his running , about 2 or 3 more SEC games & he's gonna get knocked up in the 3rd row

How do we improve our passing game? by tiger81

Kelly needs to work with him every day. I thought Kelly was supposed to be pretty good at developing QB's

Last night was the first time in the 12 years I've been watching LSU that I've seen a Coach ACTIVELY coaching Daniel's on his mechanics and progressions IN GAME LIVE

Nothing about any of that changes what the kid is as a QB

No , it doesn't change anything , including my opinion of him . However, for every action there's a reaction , and if he keeps taking those hits he's gonna get hurt ,just like last year.

Improve consistency in pass protection

Starts here. It doesn't matter who you have back there if he doesn't have time to go through progressions.

You can easily shift protection by rolling Daniels out and then doing short intermediate throws.

It’s getting better
We threw for most 3rd down conversions and there was pressure
He’s getting a little better every game

You can't. Daniels is what he is. That's all we have to roll with this season. He's in year 4 and won't get better. His development has hit its peak.

Guy had horrible coaching at ASU, downright terrible (Herm just got fired)

OL was horrible and he had no receivers for 2 years. That problem lent itself to some bad habits like taking off too soon and if you've been doing something for multiple years, it's hard to break that habit.

Guy had to spend a lot of time just fixing mechanical problems when he got here and trying to win a competition.

Fixing those problems took a lot of time then the competition took way too long stretching up to almost the last week which shortened the time with QB/receiver chemistry.

If you watch it, another part of his problem is his timing is off with the receivers. A lot of times instead of throwing it right when they break, he hesitates until the are cleanly open. He's not anticipating guys open and that comes with time and repetitions he lost by only being here since the spring. Again, he wasn't just working as "the guy", since the summer like the vast majority of QBs, he's been in competition and had to fix mechanical issues.

Daniels yards per attempt a very low (tied for 84th), but this is the same guy that finished 13th, 25th, and 51st in the country his prior 3 years with inferior talent and playcalling. He was known for his deep ball accuracy. I think them trying to perfect his short passing game has hindered his deep ball. I don't see that lasting though. By Tennessee, this pass offense will start to come open.

Again yall, give it time. Burrows first good passing performance at LSU didn't come til his 5th game. This was his first 4

46% 140 yards 5.8 ypa 0 TDs 0 ints
50% 151 yards 7.6 ypa 2 TDs 0 ints vs FCS opponent
43% 249 yards 7.1 ypa 1 TD 0 ints
57% 191 yards 6.8 0 TDs 0 ints

THIS!!! and then run go patterns once the safeties start creeping up to stop the short passing game. This is a proven strategy that has been around for ages.
Also, stop putting JD in the same position every dang play. Let him roll out to both sides with flooder zones and let him pick the open receiver. Defenders should NOT KNOW where JD is going to be on every dang play so they can rush to one spot and everytime he will be right there.
Put some imagination in the offense and lose the stale repetitive LesMilescrapola.

By not forcing a square peg into a round hole. Kid has 28 starts. He’s not a good pocket passer. Play to his strengths not his weakness.
