I'm fine with it as long as they can back it up.

I wish he'd bring this one back, just for this year:

JJ and Ryan Baker specifically, have both been very blatant about this years goals. Neither have showed too much humility. I just feel like it's a bit different than the way LSU teams have acted in the past. I'd say their first goal should be a friggin' SEC championship or how about even a western division title? I do think it is just a sign of the times, and i think it's great that we are fortunate to set such lofty goals. I was just wondering what everyone else thought?

every good team should have this as a concrete goal. you should never ever expect to lose.

National Championship is LSU's goal every year, and is openly stated within the team.

But it shouldn't be your main focus.

You don't try and climb Mt. Everest hoping to only get 75% of the way to the top.

Ive learned to not listen to anything JJ says.
Rbaker on the other hand hasnt had a whwole lot to say since he has been here.

Id rather think and talk like saban and focus on the process rather than the result.

Meh, each group of players responds to these types of goals differently. Sometimes it works, and sometimes players get big heads. This seems like a pretty mature group, as opposed to '08 when there were a bunch of selfish players on the team. Time will tell.

Saban had the goal of winning a National Championship posted on the locker room walls every year he was here.

I'm torn.

I love that they have the confidence to talk about the MNC as the goal.

However, it smacks of someone looking ahead to December/January when they have a ton of tough games in September alone (Oregon, MSU, WVa.)

did he not focus moreso on the process than the results?

is the question about posted locker room goals or players talking ... maybe I read the question wrong?

He did, but that doesn't mean the team didn't have goals each year (which included at the top of the pyramid, winning the NC).

It was about players talking, not locker room. I am just pointing out that this goal (winning the NC) is something the team does every year. Whether or not it is a good thing for the players to talk about is something that time will tell, IMO. Some teams are mature enough to walk the walk and talk the talk. Other teams talk the talk, and don't work hard enough to back it up.

If JJ says it he's stupid and cocky and needs to shutup. If anyone else says it
probably gonna take the ability to convert a couple of 3rd and long's in order to win it all, so JJ can forget it

They can talk about championships all day long but they need to focus on execution and getting prepared for games. I don't have a problem with the chatter though.

No matter what they say, it doesn't affect play ont he field.

This is just media type stuff, so if a team loses, the media will say it's because they talked...itzall bs brah, you either win or lose, nothing anyone has said either way has ever affected the outcome of the game on the field....FACT

So your mind set during preparation and play has nothing to do with performance?

I'm going to just assume you've never actually played sports.

If you are afraid that you cannot win the Championship, then you are correct. If you are brave enough to win the Championship, then you are able. Who would you rather be ?

When you state your goals, and are brave to face the obstacles ahead, then you give yourself the greatest chance to succeed. If you are scared and feel the pressure and are afraid to lose, then you are a coward.

As has been pointed out in this thread, It is all about the process, of placing one step ahead of the other and walking. One day at a time in the weight room. One hour at a time in the film study. One hour doing the right things on and off the field. Keeping the focus on one play at a time. Doing your best and becomming a champion.
