Thank you. Right handed pitchers that are not touching 90 in high school just aren’t going to get SEC looks. Unless you have some unhittable sinker/splitter or something

What happened man?

I’m not angry. I’ve been hearing for 2 weeks now about Tanner Hall and LSU when LSU or any power 5 schools just don’t recruit prospects like him out of high school. He has developed into a really good pitcher but there is a difference between missing a recruit and a lower level recruit developing into a good player.

Tanner Hall’s a sophomore.

People JUST started talking about him bc of the regional.

Now he’s some huge missed recruit.

But he didn’t. He benched him towards the end of the year and moved Slavens to 1B

You mean the part of the year Stovall was out with an injury? He was slated to sit for a game facing a LHP because he was hitting .100ish against LHP. Pre-game warmups he jabbed at a ball and it hurt a finger on his throwing hand and nearly took all of the nail off.

The comments while he was in highschool seemed to be Stovall was always interested in LSU, but LSU wasn’t in him. They thought he was a lock for the draft and didn’t pursue him. Arkansas and DVH entertained him and he committed. Then LSU showed interest and he stayed with his commitment to Arkansas. I give props to the 18/19 year old kid for loyalty to the program that kept up with him early.

And for the poster that brought up Morgan and him playing 1B. Stovall was a SS or 2B at this level, but Arkansas has two of the best defensively in the country with Battles and Moore. He’ll most likely take an interior IF position next year.

So you benching Berry, Doughty or Thompson?

Berry is a top 10 draft pick. Doughty is a top 3 round draft pick and while Thompson had his struggles defensively at shortstop he was a really good hitter and probably the most clutch hitter on the team. Also he cut down the errors considerably the last month of the season.

It's the same reason Arkansas doesn't have him at 2B this year. I think the point he's making is he didn't go to Arkansas to play 1st so Morgan being in place wasn't an issue.

Agreed that it was LSU being late to the party as the reason he ended up at Arky my point is how much could he have really helped the 2022 LSU baseball team? The lineup wasn’t the issue.

If the bat was good enough he could’ve split time at 3rd, 2nd or even LF for most the year. DH Tre while he was hurt and play 1st. Always ways to get in the lineup. Or he could’ve sat, I just don’t think baseball players look at the depth chart as much. I mean if you’re going to a top program in the SEC it’s likely that they have talent depth

Did LSU recruit him? Did AK just seem a better fit to him?

I know plenty of Razorback families in Shreveport. Lots of kids go to the U of A. It's relative obviously, but it's not rare.

NIL will play a factor going forward, but not on his recruitment.

Playing devils advocate here.. the reason we stuck with Thompson was because we really didn’t have much of an option to try there because of depth. Let’s say Stovall comes to LSU. Thompson has his struggles defensively, and at times offensively.. even though he came up very clutch at times. Having Stovall gives you an option. Lets Thompson see the bench for a minute and get his head right. And what if you plug Stovall in, he’s great defensively, and hits for a decent to high average?

Our biggest realistic option this season was to put Doughty at SS and Thompson at 2B. And errors still occurred.

He is not a defensive option at SS at the SEC level, he will play 2nd and is projected to be drafted as a 2nd baseman, Stovall that is.

Maybe because we have a guy named Tre Morgan playing 1B was the reason we didn’t recruit him.
