We didn’t even offer him until the day before Akers committed to FSU. Clemson had already been on him. Pretty sure he had just come back from a visit there.

They wanted Akers the whole time and all indications were that we had the inside track. In state, between Helaire and Etienne, Miles staff liked Helaire better. After Helaires commitment, we didn't really go much after Etienne. Around the time Orgeron came in we realized Etienne was a hell of a RB and started recruiting him harder but were always all in on Akers. Once it became apparent we weren't going to get Akers we really went after Etienne but by then Etienne was somewhat insulted at being played for 2nd fiddle. Clemson didn't go after him until they had missed on a higher priority back either but we were the 'in-state' school who had 'dissed' him.

The Recruitment of Travis Etienne: How Clemson Almost Let The Superstar Get Away

LINK

He waited 9 months for the chance to go to Clemson, his dream school.

He did not take a visit to LSU and had a ton of offers. He was recruited in 2017 by Canada and Juluke. LSU had too many recruits and Clemson was the National Champion.

His interest was only Clemson. His mother's too.

At 5'11 215 lb and 4.35 he is one of the fastest backs in FBS like Josh Jacobs at ALA.

He had 5000 yds in 2 yrs in HS with 50 TDs. I don't think Les said that about his running, but even if he did, so what he was not here, it was DL O's Staff who missed on him while stacking the "Build A Wall" Defense. In today's FBS world of Champions "Elite Defenses do not stop Elite Offenses"...10-0, 24-10, 29-0. That was a decade ago. Etienne knew that better than anyone.

Clemson came in very very late, when LSU showed little interest.
