You literally said it in reference to Florida and Vandy winning championships more recently than LSU and how LSU is not in the conversation anymore. LSU played for a championship the last time Florida did. How are they in the conversation but we aren’t?

Where did I mention Florida being in the conversation here in 2021?

I’m getting bored with this. I’m not going to convince you of anything and you’re sure as hell not going to change my mind. So I’ll just bid you a good night. Get your last word in.

Had 2020 been allowed to take place, PM’s 2019/2020 totals may have needed up worse than Smokes last two years. 2020 would have put Paul on the hot seat imo.

Then again, they were working Hill up towards a starting role later in the year. In theory, LSU could have had Henry, Marceaux, and Hill as weekend starters during SEC play.

Yet with a worse hitting team by every standard. We are learning quickly that you have to score some runs to win.

I’m not saying those three would not have had dominate games and been one hell of a rotation, but we had already been no hit and things weren’t looking much better.

Your post was about Vandy and Florida being champions more recently than LSU. Then in the same context you said that we were not even in the conversation anymore, implying those programs were because of more recent championships. Maybe I’m missing something here. I guess we are talking past each other in some way. Oh well

Certainly could have been bad. It also could have been better than people thought. It would’ve been nice for our sophomores to get that experience last year so they were more prepared for it this year.

Against the No. 3 team in the country. There’s reasons to be concerned, but dropping 2 to State is not one of them.

I guess we as LSU baseball fans should bend over and take it...accept not being competitive against top teams....that's where we are as a program, despite top recruiting classes.. thanks for the reality check

I completely agree. And I’m not pretending that we know what would have happened in 2020. But through 17 games, it wasn’t looking good at all. The team was barely batting over 0.250 vs some easy competition outside of Shriners.

Just admit you forgot Mainieri followed Smoke Laval and not Skip Bertman when you said PM took over an historic program loaded with talent. Stop trying to save face.

Smoke took over a historic program from Skip loaded with talent and drove it into the ground in 5 seasons to the point that LSU couldn’t even make the post season. So Skip fired him.

And the cupboard for Mainieri coming in was almost bare. He had to load up on JC players to field a team his first year.

In Smoke’s last season there were LSU fans holding up signs during home games that said “Make Alex Box Stadium Smoke Free!”

Just two years removed from a trip to Omaha. How could they do such a thing?!?

Smoke never won a single game in the CWS while HC at LSU.

Because he sucked and needed to go. I’m certainly not one who thinks he was good at what he did. But if we hate on him for bad management of the games as well as the program and the lack of results, the last 3 years with PM haven’t been much better. It’s only one game difference in the all important sec record. Losing two games at home to Florida State also stung pretty badly.

Wrong again. Unless you actually believe not even making the post season is “shockingly similar” to winning a regional and hosting a super-regional.

It’s you who is posting drivel.

I think we all know his lack of success in omaha wasnt the reason he was fired

Tbh we probably should have made a regional in 2006. It wasn’t as bad as the 2011 snub but it was still a shock that we didn’t make it. 13-17 in the sec is usually good enough. ETA: and we made the SECT before it was expanded. The record in 2011 was 13-17 as well. I wonder if PM deserved to be fired after that year?

Was it his weight or that he wasn’t young enough to relate to the players?

I think 12-18 in the SEC would be respectable. That puts LSU about 37-21. Maybe get a couple wins in the tourney or make a deep run, and you’re definitely looking at a solid #3 seed on the road. Catch a few breaks and you might get to 41 or 42 wins and sneak in as a tough #2 seed at an ACC host site.

I think most mid level programs would take that in a heartbeat. So be happy, because the Glory Day’s are behind us.
