How big is "Home Dome" advantage really?

I’m just killing time at work today, and I’ve never played or coached at a high level of D-1 football. I say this because it’s all speculation, but how big of an advantage do you think playing in the dome will be? I think it helps, sure, but I don’t see it as being quite as big a deal as most make it out to be. I find it mildly insulting that LSU in the Superdome seems to equate with Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
I’d clearly rather play in NOLA than any of the other BCS cities, clearly. But I don’t’ see it as a home game. What are the big factors in determining a “home field” advantage? I’d say there are 3 major factors: familiarity with the facilities, crowd, and familiar routines/comfort factor. I’m open to disagreement.
How many players have actually played in the dome? It would seem to me that the only guys with dome experience gained it from high school. Compared to 2007, that team played a regular season game in the superdome and also the previous Bowl game. Huge advantage. I guess a the NOLA players will even more jacked to play at home, but still. Conversely, Bama’s seniors actually played there with Bama as freshman.
The crowd will definitely be an advantage but I can’t think it will be more that 70/30. This is an advantage but nothing like T-Town was against us. Again, better than if it were in Pasadena but ticket allotment and proximity to Alabama may take away a huge advantage.
I guess the lack of airplane rides will be helpful and the team stays in their BR routine a bit longer but it’s still not the comforts of home as in any bowl game. Our guys have a better routine playing in Dallas and Atlanta than they do in New Orleans.

The big advantage is really cost. It will cost LSU fans a lot less than Alabama fans to go to this game.

The people that say we will have the large majority of seats filled with LSU fans are nuts. I went in '03 and '07.
In '03, Oklahoma knew well before LSU that they were in the NC game. The outnumbered LSU fans by about a 60/40 ratio.
In '07, it was probably 53 to 47 percent in LSU's favor, but people saying it was much more than that were either not at the game or simply delusional.
That being said, the LSU fans are always louder.

if the 12th man wasn't a big deal then A&M wouldn't have "Home of the 12th man" on their stadium.

I was there and I would put it at 60/40 in LSU's favor.

Probably be best if you found something else to occupy your time.

according to some Bama fans...it'll be 50/50 as far as crowd goes.

the advantage is significant imho

I'm aware of that.
Same can be said for you my friend.

No. Just fricking no. It was 50/50 at worst.

Probably 60/40 at worst.
Bama will travel well and being very close and having rabid fans means they will buy a lot of tickets. I still say it will be 55/45 LSU.
We get a vast majority of the tickets held by in-state officials and Saints people. We have more connections to the Superdome, the city, and the powerful people of this state.

Jordan Jefferson played his last game as a high school football player in the Dome and won a state championship there. He will be playing his last game as a college football player in that same Dome. Therefore...............

I think the advantage is more turf and controlled weather enviornment than the number of fans; though I expect a good showing for both teams.

What did you do a head count? How could you put up percentages like 53 to 47?

I was thinking the same thing.

Sure this helps, but that was four years ago. I find it disagreeable that the Dome is equated with Tiger Stadium.

Ask ULL how big it is. Then get back at me.

Not the same thing at all. I don't disagree it helps but curious to degree to which it helps.
