House’s defense looked competent last year?

I want to say misses in the transfer portal, because that is part of it; however, that doesn't explain the whole picture. House has completely regressed.

Last year I think we benefited from corners that were good in zone combined with DL that could set the edge and maintain rush lanes.

BJ Ojulari also masked a lot of issues by putting consistent pressure on the QB.

I also think the fact that there wasn’t much film in House’s tendencies matters.

It starts with the D-line not being able to get pressure. House’s zone defense needs pressure or receivers have time to find the holes.

You'd think he would switch to man then. Remember in fall camp hearing that Harris and others were having issues with zone? Wonder what our record is if he switched to man then

We might as well switch to man-to-man, because obviously they the zone Defense is very porous.

I will say this, that this game he actually made tons of in game adjustments. None of our players are competent.

We have a culture issue.

The simplest fix to busted coverages in a secondary is to run Cover 2 or Cover 1 man. It takes the thinking out of it.

An Ole Miss buddy of mine was at the game and we talked a bit yesterday. He said he couldn’t believe how often they had at least one guy running wide open. It wasn’t just a little open either, it was no one within 10 yards of their receiver and it was nearly every play.

At this point he should be willing to try anything

Still doesn’t cover for poor tackling when our guys do happen to be in position. They have to make those plays.

House hasn't been anywhere more than 3 years with most of his stops being 1-2 years. Thats a big red flag. While he did good at Kentucky it may because of Stoops as it seems Kentucky always has a good defense under him.

Pull the Daronte Jones method. Blitz every time with Cover 1 or 0 over top. Big plays will happen but we'll get more stops and TO's. Our offense is good enough to keep up with that.

What I think people forget...

Last year we took Bernard-Converse who was the best DB in the Big 12...

This year we took Harris who was the best parking garage drifter in College station...

There in lies the difference.

We had better, way more experienced, players too. Brooks and Foucha were at Arkansas for years as starters. Garner was like a 5th year player and was big (6'2 215). Converse was also another big corner (6'1 205) that had tons of starting experience and was a senior coming from another power 5 school. We also had Jay Ward back that who was a LSU vet. I heard Kelly talk a few weeks back that House had added in more of the defense this year, but these DBs are brand new. Now he's tried to simplify it, and that won't work either. In all honesty, he needs to go to a lot more man. I think we have corners athletic enough to stick to their guy. What we need to force in their heads is to also turn around and look for the damn ball. We need more playmakers on the ball.

I wish he would just try man instead of zone.

Last year Perkins did a lot of delayed blitzes. When he saw a lane to blitz he blitzed. He also moved around a lot so the defense didnt know where he was coming from or when he was coming. Now it looks like he is lined up like a DE trying to beat the offenses tackle which he cant do consistantly.

Also why is Maason Smith getting more reps than Jefferson?

This performance is anomalous for House. He had really solid defenses at Kentucky, especially relative to their talent, and had a solid defense for us last year with a lot of band-aid players.

He has completely shite the bed this season. So badly, I doubt he'll ever be a DC anywhere meaningful again.

I like this idea.
