Is the river market area the best place to stay ? I did a quick search and found nothing. Suggestions?

I have previously stayed at the Peabody in that area. Pretty nice. Great location.

I just booked two at the Holiday Inn right next to there for $117/night.
That's probably the cheapest hotel room I've booked for an LSU away game this year. I like it.

Having lived in LR for many years now, I would suggest avoiding any hotel located south of I-630. Most of the hotels in downtown/River Market and on the west side of town are just fine.

I recommend the DoubleTree downtown. That whole rivermarket area is pretty neat. Riverfront steakhouse offers a good steak IMO.

It always seems to be cold when we play there, but downtown by the river is a cool area...some good bars and whatnot around there too.

The Holiday Inn isn't really in the River Market. It's not too far, but if you want to stay in the River Market, then I would try these:
Capital Hotel
Marriott Courtyard
The Peabody, of course, is nice as well and in the middle of things down there, but their rates are usually higher and parking fees are higher than The Capital or Marriott.
