Dale Brown actually did this by looking at the game shot charts. I think he claims that Pete would have averaged 13 pts/gm more. There is now way to know from the charts if some of the shots were from 19 or 20 feet. That to me seems a little high, but Dale was probably giving Pete the benefit of the doubt on the marginal shots.

Agreed. 13 seems a bit high, though I did have the pleasure of seeing Pete play and I can assure you he made many, many shots beyond what is now the 3-point line. In a 5 minute youtube video of the highlights of the '69 Kentucky vs LSU game I counted 6 three-point makes by Pete and that was just highlights of a portion of that game. I think a conservative estimate would have him scoring another 500 points in his career with the 3point shots and quite a few extra free throws. He was often fouled on long field goal attempts, such was his proficiency for making them.

Pistol was basically a one man team.

nly guy on the team who could have cracked Kentucky's lineup

I hate to sound negative and would hate for other members of his team to read this thread, but was that basically because KY was THAT good, or was everyone else on LSU just that bad?

I was coaching bb in Grenada, Miss and we coaches bought 62 tickets to the LSU-Ole Miss game way before the season started. We were sited right in an end zone right behind a goal and several students actualy talked and got autograhs from Pete. He was an awesome person and player. I think he scored 52 points that day. It was a day to remember for the students and players that went to that game to see Pete play. We were the only group and with students there. We could have sold those ticket and bought us a car with the profit. People could not believe we did this and got those tickets......
