The dancing looks spazzy but besides that it's justa song. I don't see any LSU tradion in it but if they won't play Tiger Rag then I guess tradiion ain't what it used to be.
But then again neither am I

The bottom line is that it sucks and the fans doing the swimming motions look silly.
The worst thing to ever happen to LSU football. Losing every game for a full season would be better than hearing Neck one time.

Neck started in 2006. I don't know if it was because the HBCU bands had played it and the band administration wanted to mimic that or not, but it was a song in a collections of songs (those usual 3-4 song collections called "Stand Jams" and other stupid shite) and the 2 songs we took from it were "Apache" (Jump on it) and "Neck". "Do What You Wanna" was played in (I believe) end of 2004 or 2005 (don't really remember) but I do know we really started playing it after the Final Four run by the basketball team.

Stay Strong, lsuj. You're right.
In pre-season new songs are given to the band to play through. Some of them are immediately voted off the island. Others are inserted into the repertoire. In 2006, the band directors passed out a sheet of music with four different songs on it. I think they were called "Time Out Fillers" or something like that. "Neck" was one of them, I think "Jump On It" may have been another one on there as well. I don't even remember what the other two were, so the must have sucked. (Paging Picc for confirmation).
The band, crowd and team immediately responded well to the song, so it stuck as a permanent song played by TGBFTL.
Southern did play it before Tiger Band, and probably other schools before that, and Cameo before that, but that's pretty much the history of "Neck" regarding the LSU Band.

So basically, from the confirmation today, I was right back in January of 2008. If people would just read my post (about 3rd on here) I had it all sorted out.
Also, I have video of the last time Tiger Rag was played in the pregame. I snuck a camera (before cell phone cams were everywhere) into Tiger Stadium and filmed the pregame vs Arkansas in 2005. I should post that video on youtube sometime. In my video, shot from East Upper Deck, you can clearly hear the A-hole chants that go with the Tiger Rag. It was not just the student section, many Tigerfans around the stadium would chant it.

Well this video is from the Jan 2007 Sugar Bowl, which would mean that LSU's band was playing it during the 2006 season. They didn't break it out and everybody knew what to do in the Sugar Bowl vs. Notre Dame.
This was the 2006 season

i both hate and love the fact that this thread is a bump from january of 2008.
Not everybody has caught on to that.

I was in the band during the 2006-2007 school year;
I was not in the band beyond the January 3, 2007 Sugar Bowl game;
I played Neck as a member of Tiger Band;
= 2006.

damn maybe we did start playing it in 2006. they all sort of start running together after time. For the record, they give us a lot of music to run through and if people don't like it, they vote it out (stands tunes). some that i recall being voted down were
Time Warp
Jesus is Just Alright
I Want Candy
Gigolo

Neck is one of my favorite things. The entire student section loves it. And I never thought it looked "thuggish" or "ghetto". I guess I'm just not the kind of person to find race in a hand motion.
I think everyone looks awesome waving their hands around. Just look like they look great moving them up and down during Bandits.

David Lee Roth? I remember the band playing that back in the late 80's or early 90's.

yeah I thought it was sweet but no one else knew the song.

Tiger Band played Gigolo in the early 2000s. I still liked it in 2006, wish it wouldn't have gotten voted down. I can definitely do without Time Warp, although I'm not sure LRM feels the same way.

neck is fun. the students love it. therefore the band plays it. youre not obliged to like it, but honestly, why complain? it gets the crowd (and probably the players) pumped up.
