At Duke, Alleva hired three football coaches in his 11 years: Carl Franks, Ted Roof, and David Cutcliffe. Franks' record in his five years was 7–45, including two 0–11 seasons. Roof went 6–45.

Cutcliffe I like but Alleva is 1-4 if you count O.

Then how did he negotiate a $12,000,000 buyout?

Football pays the bills. Wade could win back2back titles and it won't fix a bad football hire.

$$$$$ talks and O is gonna cost LSU millions whether we buy him out or in lost revenue and donations.

what's going to be hilarious (and sad) is in 2 years when O is about to get fired, there will be fans with Stockholm system and recruitards making the 'crootin argument to keep O. WE CAN'T LOSE THIS ONE CLASS. WE WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER

So our AD is the second coming of Joe Dean, and his football hire might be the second coming of Curley Hallman.

History really is cyclical.

Unless you hire, ya know, Lane Kiffin?

It's like he thought that he wouldn't have to compete to make a desirable hire. He apparently thought that a good coach shouldn't have other suitors. It's perplexing.

I just don't see how he couldn't see something like that coming. It seems to me that putting in competing offers is part of participating in a competitive hiring market. I don't see holding it against any hiring candidate for trying to get their best offer. It's how it works in every other hiring process. The only difference is that a college coach at this level probably has a lot more bargaining power than average, which only makes negotiating even more important. This kind of incompetence and ego is mind-blowing.

other than the temper tantrum, i really think he got convinced that he could be a trend setter and savior of CFB by standing up to "big money" hires and creating a new paradigm of "lower paid HC and investing in assistants"

he was wrong

very, very wrong
