He's loved now.....what if he remained for 2-3 more years?

What if the program regressed into true despair? (and, current trends say it very well could)

What then?

I can tell you it would have been a true travesty to the legacy he did build.

It's ok for people to be upset that he's gone...even if they wanted him gone

He would have more love right now if he had left last November. Let's just be glad it's over.

Well he didn't, so what's the point of discussing this?

I love Les the person, but his time as the head coach has run its course. By cutting ties now the current fan base can still love him and appreciate what he did over his 11 years, but if had stayed on for 2-3 years and nothing changed then the frustration from the fans would have overshadowed Les the person and vilified him as Les the coach.

It would have gotten more and more ugly after each loss and all signs were pointing to a lot more defeats. This should have been done last year but at least Alleva didn't screw around and wait any longer.

He recruits too well for the program to ever fall that far off.

I assume you've seen the remainder of LSU's schedule THIS YEAR?

What would you forecast as the final record?

It really looked like we were on the brink of taking a huge step. I thought we could have gone 7-1 the rest of the way with him. Now, I'm much more NegaTiger

Don't know but don't be surprised when LSU looks like a completely different team and stomps a mud hole in Missouri this Saturday.

UT fans still love Mack Brown, so yeah, I think he'd still be loved.

The reason to play the "if game" is because the facts don't bear out the conclusion that is being asserted and the speaker/writer knows it. So, he makes up facts that support his point and, to deal with the fact that he is making up those facts, he simply implies that they would inevitably happen in the future. This gives the speaker/writer the cover of not feeling like a dufus even though he is being one.
