I agree with you. At NSU now, almost everyone on the Drumline is a Percussion or Music major, so they don't go out together or get together and drink and hack. But, they are good percussionists, as you said about LSU. More focused on their Music, Percussion, or Performance Degree's. Every time we visit Mr. Green always says, that its just not the same anymore. Change is good though. What Mr. Green meant was the drumline doesn't get together outside of classes and hack away and "Bond" like we did.

Back when I was on the Line at NSU, there were very few majors in percussion or music. So it was a bunch of Drumline Jocks who practiced every day of the week for 3 hours and later in the evening we would all get together and practice while drinking. We would end up going out to clubs later on. We had a routine.

To Percussionists of all flavors may we have fun!!!

I guess every place has their own style. We didn't practice as much as a line as some, but we definitely partied. A LOT. All of TGBFTL did when I was there, but the Drumline could close it down. We went to Drinkin' with Lincoln at the Tiger twice a week and, well, class was rough on Tuesday and Friday mornings. I remember I had my lesson with Doc on Tuesdays at 10 in the Fall of my Sophomore year, and the hangover was usually just getting bearable by then.

So, while we focused on concert music, it was still a very tight knit group. One of the things that really contributed is that we had our own little building next to the band hall. We all spent so much time practicing and just hanging out around each other in the Percussion Annex that it became like a family.

I really missed that when I got to FSU. It was very different. Not nearly as much camaraderie. And I only knew one percussion major there who was in the Drumline for more than a year. They did practice a lot, and the time demands were too much for most. It put a pretty heavy strain on him.

How long before gametime do they usually do the drum warmup? I'd love to take my little one to see that.
