He called into Bobby Hebert's show last night talking about how kids should make every visit they can before committing anywhere. And the parents should stay out of it as much as possible. He said too many parents try to get their kids to go to the school they want them to go to instead of having the kids interests at heart. I agreed with him. He must be doing pretty well for himself, he's got a son at Newman, didn't say what he was currently up to though.

I think he mainly meant the type of parents that the coaches talk to more than they talk to the players.

He came to my apt a couple of times. He wanted to buy a big arse kitchen knife from me.

I heard the interview too. He just called into the show as a regular caller. He was Herb from NO or something. He started talking about recruiting and said something like he is familiar with the process b/c he was the starting QB for LSU for a few years.

Bobby and Deke went silent for a sec and finally I think Bobby said something like wait is this Herb Tyler. It was kind of funny. He also said something like he thought his son might be a national recruit in a few years (I think he is in 6th grade).

He had some really good insight as how it is as a player and a parent as it pertains to recruiting.

My favorite Tiger of all time!!!

Wasn't the best at any one thing; just good at a lot of 'em!

Had more heart than entire teams do and was P&G through and through!

Yeah, they said "why didn't you tell them who you were, we would have gotten to you a lot sooner."

Yep, right after Notre Dame didn't recruit him.

Aw man, Herb really was the embodiment of those Dinardo return-to-glory days. He really was and still is one of my favorite tigers. Glad he's doing all right. I need to listen to Bobby more often...

No, he didn't say. This could be him though.

The most disappointing thing about HT's career at LSU was Lou Tepper. Had DiNardo not brought him in and we had any kind of decent d whatsoever, HT would have been lSU's leading qb in victories.
The O was good enough to beat anybody and put up enough points to do so. Tepper's d was like a sieve. What a shame and it was made worse because HT came out of nowhere to win the starting qb job.

Anyone know of any highlights of his playing days? He was a fun QB to watch.

I remember how he use to throw some beautiful spirals. Chris Leak reminded me alot of Herb Tyler for some reason.

Parents should be the most influential people in a Kids life..

I never stop asking advise from my Dad, and I am 43 next month..

With that said, Highly recruited Kids should get to follow their heart..and not feel pressure from Parents... Presssure from Parents, is probably not a parent acting in the best interest of their son. having your parents approval is important...and nothing should change that..

However:

The American culture today is really off track on how family should be..today it's just a big mess
