Ted, it's cool. Thanks for starting the thread asking about visiting. Don't worry about the insignificant comments of haters who don't have a clue about Baton Rouge.
Just ignore them. Ignore them.
I lived in Baton Rouge in the mid-80s for school and there is so much more than just the LSU campus.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy your visit.

Thanks man. Lived in Westwood for a while and now at Bama. Like the city but it's small. I like New Orleans a lot and really want to visit LSU. I'll be there for the Bama game in any event.

Off campus you have to visit The Chimes/The Varsity, TJ's Ribs, drive around the LSU lakes/sorority row, Sammy's, The Varsity, State Capital (old and new). Traffic sucks, so be patient. Enjoy your visit

It can't be too much longer on I-10. It seems like it's been forever.

Being an alum of Istrouma Sr. I highly suggest seeing the 70805 zip code.

Just picked up my grandchild who was attending gymnastics camp at LSU. The campus was amazingly beautiful, the people at Cook Hotel were incredible, so nice, the restaurants were great, antique stores were wonderful.

I have also been to Austin several times. It is a nice place but Baton Rouge is equal in every way.

Stay away from that stupidly designed business center though. Looks ridiculously out of place...

This. LSU administration still hasn't learned their fricking lesson with "edgy" architecture. Middleton was probably state of the art in the 60's. Now its a huge clusterfrick of green linoleum floors and wood paneling.

The Business building will look outdated within two decades.

That said, the new Chemistry Annex on Highland is a model for all new construction on campus.

Hahahahahaha

Nope.

Proud as hell to be an LSU alumni, but you cannot compare the cities of Austin and Baton Rouge. That's Luxembourg to Somalia.

The State Capital also has tours, even to the top of the building.

Must see. Especially the hallway behind the main lobby. The bullet holes from Huey P. Long's assasination are still in the walls.

Like most things in life, living in a city/town is what we make it.

I have lived/spent lots of time in Covington, Hammond, Laf., N.O., Monroe, and BR. They all have their good and not so good points, but I have enjoyed them all.

If we are unhappy people, we gonna find something to be unhappy bout no matter where we might be.

Austin is a nice place but not nearly as old or interesting as Baton Rouge/New Oreleans its people, history on the River and world class food. Our architecture represents well the history of our state and the various styles of the Spanish, French and Italian people who settled our State. Geaux LSU and Geaux ULM beat Bama
