You thinking JOB III goes pro now? Or moves back down to the 4...which would push Martin to the 3.

JOB back to 4 and Martin to 3. I just posted what I think the depth chart will look like above

Deng Deng is coming in with 4 years to play 3, I believe. I wonder if redshirting is on the table for him?

I doubt we redshirt him. We will need the minutes now. I think Jones is confident he can recruit better 5s in the future.

Where do you think we would be if Odo was eligible this year?

At least 2 more wins? Maybe 3?

I'd say we would probably have a few more wins. It's so hard to tell though. If we could have had him starting at the beginning of the year I'd say he definitely could have helped us to 2-3 more wins, but coming halfway thru the season I just don't know how long it would have taken him to understand the team mentality.

BUT, I do think this team is 1 player away from being top 5 or so SEC, even this year. Add the 5 guys next year and I think we are top 5 for sure.

Isn't Odo eligible now? The staff is choosing to use a redshirt year. He has 3 to play 2, correct?

No, he isn't eligible due to some educational reason. It has to do with with fact that he didn't finish enough courses at Juco, and is having to do "catch-up" courses this semester to qualify for continuing his undergrad.

Research it for yourself then.
My husband was given that info by someone on the coaching staff a few months ago.
I'm not sure I have the explanation correct, but the gist of the matter is that Odoh needs a certain amount of credits to start his LSU degree.

I just assume that if that's indeed the case, he would not be practicing with the team right now

THat's what I was trying to look up, if academically ineligible players can practice or not. Can't remember if they can off hand.

From the Mean Green blog May 2012:
(When he was a JJ recruit for UNT)
"Odoh has some summer school classes he has to take to finish his two-year degree and qualify to play at the Division I level next year".

From the Advocate Sept./12
"As he works to finish his degree requirements at Hill Junior College in Texas, Odoh, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound center, has committed to LSU basketball as part of the 2013 recruiting class."
"Odoh will not play basketball this season, but plans to graduate from Hill in December and enroll at LSU the following month."

Therefore, he wasn't able to enroll at LSU in time for the start of the 2012/13 season, and since he did complete his 2 yr degree at the end of December, he could then enroll at LSU come January.
Exerpt from the NCAA eligibility rules:
Eligibility for Practice.
(1) You are eligible to practice if you are enrolled in a minimum full-time
program of studies leading to a baccalaureate or equivalent degree as
defined by the regulations of the certifying institution. [Bylaw 14.1.8.1]
(2) You are eligible to practice during the official vacation period
immediately preceding initial enrollment, provided you have been accepted by your institution for enrollment in a regular,
full-time program
of studies at the time of your initial participation, you no longer are
enrolled in your previous educational institution and you are eligible under
all institutional and NCAA requirements. [Bylaw 14.1.8.1.1]

So there you have it

If he enrolled for spring at LSU he can play in the spring, that's happened before.

He's not playing because he has 3 years to play 2 seasons, so CJJ doesn't want to waste a full season for him to play half a season.

Especially since even with him we wouldn't be a tournament team. We are building for next year and 2014/15. Hickey and JOB III are only Sophomores which is pretty exciting, except that if JOB III continues to play like he has recently he may not make it to next year, but I think he stays for at least his junior year.

Yep, that all makes sense.

Wasn't aware it was possible for a player to start playing part way through a season, that's already started without him. I assumed you kind of had to officially "declare your roster", prior to the season's start.

100% here for junior year. Still has a lot to work on but his senior year is up in the air IMO. Has to show he can go a season without injury also.
