Has John Odo been practicing with the team?

I was just curious if anyone has any scoop on how Odo has looked in practice. Talk about an under the radar guy; all I can find on google is that he's very athletic, and at one time was on Florida's radar.

Coach id talk about how he was helping JOB get better. Im assuming that means good things. It was nice to get him playing against someone in practice a bit more athletic than Tuba... No significant reports on the quality of Odo's game.

This is what I'd like to know. I have to assume it's a good sign that Johnny thought he was still worth a scholly even if he had to miss a year.

This isn't a big deal. NCAA allows teams to offer 1 year scholarships. He is redshirting this year and will have 2 years to play. He can technically get cut next season if he doesn't pan out.
That being said, I think people in the program 100% expect Odo to be our starting center next season and contribute for 2 years. I believe the same, and I think you can see Johnny improving very well with Odo to practice against.

Yea, I think Saturday was a prime example of that. I thought JOB hung pretty well with Noel for the most part.
I'm hoping I get to cover a few practices this semester, so if I do and he's participating, I'll be sure to send updates this way

I posted this on the LSU-Kentucky thread:

Hey Brit, does Odo practice with the team?
Yes he does.
I've only been to 1 practice since he's joined LSU, so I didn't have much to observe, but he looked pretty good.
Positives:
He can run really fast down court, and will hustle to get down there, a great attribute for a big man. Has a lot of stamina. He has really long arms, great for pulling down rebounds. Will go inside hard. He's already gelled with the team, looks like gets along with the other players well. He's an incredibly happy looking guy - a huge smile on his face the whole time, he's having the time of his life! (My husband says this is because he doesn't live in Nigeria anymore ). I guess I mean he has a positive personality, I think fans will love him.
Negatives:
Looks like he needs to beef up a bit. A summer of working out will probably take care of that.
Didn't really have much time to observe specific skills (too busy watching Josh Badeaux knocking the hell out of Carmouche and Hickey, ). He looks a bit raw/rusty, however. Probably an adjustment from the Juco game. Didn't see any spectacular low post moves or outside shooting.
As I said, that was just one practice, but I liked what I saw.

I've seen him in three practices.Very raw but athletic as hell, can jump out the gym. No low post back to the basket game to speak of,good hands which is a big plus, pretty nice stroke for a big guy.Defensively he fouls at an alarming rate, but is being coached to move his feet and stay on the floor. He was working with coaches on post moves after regular practice ended. He will help add depth but should not be counted on to contribute many offensive stats.

It's amazing how many stats you can get if you just hit the offensive boards and run in transition, two things I have heard he will be able to do. The points come. Being in the right place at the right time can really get you some pts. I don't think we need him to be able to post up, but he needs to keep a guy from double teaming JOB. Hopefully he can do that.

Is he a jc transfer with 2 years left after this year? Whats the story on Deng Deng?

Odo is taking his redshirt right now and will have two years to play starting next year.
Deng Deng didn't get the okay academically, but he should be okay for the fall. He plans on signing and joining as soon as his academics get straightened out. Unfortunately we don't get to have him in practice now though.

SOS I just dont see him getting big minutes with the three other frontcourt guys(JOB ??) we will suit up next year. He will get minimal minutes, but def help with the depth. Its all good though, just answering the OP question.

Is Deng Deng counted toward the 2012 or 2013 class? Because if he counts for this upcoming class, then we wouldn't have any spots left available unless someone like a Courtney leaves

Talking about Odoh or Deng Deng? If about Deng Deng I agree, but Odoh will get plenty of minutes. He's the only other center on the team besides JOB III so he'll have to play some significant minutes considering the foul trouble JOB III gets in alone at times. Martin will probably be primarily at the 4 and Mickey will be a 3/4 guy.
A big tall guy like Odoh will be huge for rebounding and blocking shots when JOB III is not in the game.

It doesn't matter what class Deng Deng will be in because in basketball you get 13 scholarships per year to give out.

I think Odo starts next year. Having this year to practice and work with training staff is very important. Deng Deng won't get much PT, but Odo will.
The HS guys we are getting in are more SF and PF guys rather than C types like Odo.

Yea it's pretty sad and a reason there are so many transfers... You can give out 1 year scholarships and revoke them in later years, but you just have to have 13 max players.
NEXT YEARS ROSTER/DEPTH CHART:
1. Hickey Jr
1. Quarterman Fr
1. Collins So
2. Stringer Sr
2. Morgan So
3. Martin Fr
3. Coleman Sr
3. Hammink So
4. JOB Jr
4. Mickey Fr
4. Courtney SR (transfer possibility)
5. Odo Jr
5. Deng Deng Jr/So (not sure)

You thinking JOB III goes pro now? Or moves back down to the 4...which would push Martin to the 3.
