Has it been discussed why Saban went for 2 after going ahead 21-17?

What was the advantage of trying to go ahead by 6 points instead of kicking the extra point to go ahead by 5? If Bama kicks the extra point, then they win 25-24 with the field goal at the end of the game.

If BAMA had kicked the PAT we would have gone for 2 when we scored. BAMA still would have tied with a FG, assuming we got the 2. We may have had to burn our game winning play earlier.

Chasing the missed 2 pts they already lost. I mean what kind of team can’t convert a 2 pt in a huge game?

I don't know why he kicked the extra point but this isnt exactly true. If he kicks the extra point to go up 5, we would have gone for 2 after our TD, and if we got it we are still up 3.

So you can't say for certain a FG wins it at the end without knowing whether or not we convert our own 2 pt conversion.

Did you watch the FSU game?

I am not saying it was the right call but LSU needed a TD to win there if if they missed the 2pt conversion so the decision was try to get it to 6 so that if LSU did score a missed PAT would come into play

LSU's special teams disasters played into that BIG

His chart told him to go for 2, but if the refs don't frick us, then we aren't even in that position.

If Bama goes up 22-17, then LSU goes for 2 when we scored our last TD in regulation. Changes the game.

He said in the post game press conference that he has a “chart”. He then began to do a math problem for the reporter who asked the question. He was a smartass and knew post game that, no matter what the “chart” says, you don’t chase points early in the game by going for 2. I’m shocked he played it that way. My guess is he was arrogant enough to believe they would get it every time and, by the way they were playing, he figured getting more points is what they needed.

Yes... In his presser he told them he has a chart! And after some senior moment of 1st grade math-- offered to show it to them.

Saban knew it would take more than 21 to win

He expected us to make two field goals at most. He didn’t expect us to drive down field

He mentioned a chart which means basically guidelines for coaches in certain situations. Earlier up by one, he decides to go for two to be up by a Field Goal. The second time they are faced with being up by 4 points (if the conversion is missed), 5 (if they kick the XP successfully), or 6 (if the 2-pt. conversion is successful). The advantages of being up by 6 is that you are up two FGs and if your opponent scores a TD and misses their XP you are still tied. The logic is that there is no real difference late in a game (unless your defense gives up another TD) between being up by 5 or by 4, so try to go up by 6.

Shaka gave an answer in his press conference.

Said they have a sheet that tells them when to go for two.

Made the question seem like a dumb question. But I’m reality he shouldnt have gone for 2.

But he’s the smartest guy in the room so do t dare question him.

And likely not gotten it just as Bama didn't get theirs twice. I will never understand going for two until the end. And yes, they likely win the game on that field goal.

That's what I thought even though I don't think it was the right call

What are the chances we miss another extra point?

His reasoning was 6 is reachable with 2 fg, but only to tie. No difference between 4 and 5, 6 is ok if you hold to 2 fg

At least thats what he said in his presser. I get it.

6 point lead means LSU would have to make PAT to win.

Reverse the shoes...
If Kelly had LSU in the same scenario and kicked the XP instead of going for two the entire fan base would chastize him.
I hate Nick but support that decision.
