I went to Chapel Hill for the LSU-NC game back in like 85. Great folks, good bbq, very friendly. They were amused by us "going to the hip pocket" for a little shot to the coke from the concession stand.

Living in NC, I would say UNC grads are very, very snobish. However, most of their die hard fans are not graduates. These guys are like any other fan base. They have good ones and bad ones. I would say LSU's fan base relates more to NC State when it comes to good ole county boys and girls. When it comes to passion, ECU is a lot like LSU fans. They keep up with their teams and they like to party. LSUsports.net schedule has us coming to Raleigh in 2020. If it stands, boy will I throw a party.

yea they are nothing like Duke fans. My mom went to UNC and ive been to a few football games and when WVU played them in a bowl a few years ago. They are def more grounded and normal than duke or wake fans.

I have lived in the Raleigh area since 1996 and this is pretty much dead-on with respect to UNC fans. I should add that when it comes to football, if the team is not winning, the fans do not show up ... period. Several times over the years, there has been more Wolfpack red in the stands at Keenan Stadium (UNC) then powder blue for their big rivalry game. They are very much "fair weather" fans.

I was on the UNC campus in 2008. I wore LSU hat and shirt but got zero comments. Seemed like nice folk with everyone I met. Football doesn't seem to be a priority in their lives.

I've been to 3 UNC games the past 2 seasons. Notre Dame and a cupcake in 2008 and the ECU game last year. ND and ECU were decently big game for them.

It was sold out at Kenan Stadium, but in general they were not remotely close to as rowdy as Tiger fans (some of that is due to the way their stadium is set up - wide, not enclosed on one end so doesn't trap sound). Tailgaiting was amateur hour but still a good time.

I would imagine most UNC fans you meet in ATL are alumni and most are cordial. Certainly saw my fair share of jackasses tho.

I would agree with the one poster who said ECU fans are more like LSU fans than UNC. They were going hard. Incredibly trashy, but partied hard.

I think the UNC fans will be in a for an eye opener when they see how loud the LSU faithful are. Last count, we have sold 5-6k more tickets than them. In fact, they sent back many of their upper deck tix.

It's hard to get most UNC fans I meet to even talk about football. All they seem to care about is basketball, but most are still cordial. They sound a lot like the GT fans I met before the bowl game in 2008. They feel like they have a good team, but know that going up against an SEC team is going to be a huge hill to climb. There are many questions on their offense and no one knows what will come from the NCAA. They are already preparing their excuses as to why they didn't win, though.

Other than overalls being the dress of the day, they're pretty much like everyone else.

Not uncommon BEFORE the game. If their team manages to win though, look out. That's when they start to run their mouth. This has been their M.O. for years.

For some reason, I imagine that they are relatively snobbish and pretentious.

Kind of like Gumps, but with education, intelligence and with homes that don't have wheels............

Anybody have any interesting quotes or thoughts from their message boards? I don't have the time or energy to peruse their sites.

You are right about that! You will never see as many UNC t-shirts, hats, window stickers or flags as you will the Monday after they win a football game or big basketball game. I always see NC State fans wearing their gear win or lose, but Tar Heels are only proud to represent their university if it's winning.

This is a good example of how most people here feel, not just UNC fans.

Most of there fans were pretty confident in a UNC win. However, since the news came out today about their two players being out, they are blaming a loss to that.

When we played over there in 2008, we couldn't get much going with their fans on the messageboards or tailgating before the game. Not as friendly as some of the fans of some of the other FBS teams we have played. Nebraska fans in 2002 were the best.

And frankly, what we saw of the UNC tailgating sucked.

And we did give them a good scare. If it wouldn't have been for Brandon Tate, we might have won that game.

Yes. They are all very respectful of LSU football and do not expect to win. Basketball is their game! Very humble football fans

Right ... never been around a UNC fan after a loss to NC State have you. Humble, they're not.
