Has any school hired three coaches in a row that won a NC?

I'm very curious. The odds have to be incredibly low.

Did Erickson win? He had a chance and lost to Bama in the Sugar. Also lost to Nebraska.

Correct. Miami did. Had Butch Davis stayed and not went to the Browns he would have been the 4th in a row to win a NC at Miami. My kids city league football coach could have won a NC with that 2001 Miami team. Hopefully we make the right hire and our next coach joins that list of 3 coaches in a row to win a NC at one school.

Davis finished ranked second in 2000. They beat fsu in regular season but the bus put fsu in title game against Michael Vick and va tech.

Coker won it the next year when Davis left to go to Cleveland.

Pretty sure miami did it. Schnellenberger, jimmy johnson, and Dennis erickson all won a natty. Then they hired butch davis and he didn't win one but was close. After butch davis they hired Larry Coker who won a national title too. So they hired 5 head coaches and 4 of them won a natty. That's pretty good. Lsu can do it too though, we have all of the resources to be extremely successful here. LES frickING MILES WON A TITLE HERE AND COULD HAVE WON 2...with as bad of a coach he was he still got it done. Lsu will be fine and whoever gets the job next season will be competing for title right off the bat.

I don't think they'll have enough to do it next year, but they're still in in this year, so anything can happen. They'll have to make a really good hire though.

Schnellenberger in '83. They beat Nebraska 31-30. Nebraska was the consensus #1 going into the game and could have won the natty with a tie. There was no OT then. They scored late and elected to go for win with a 2 pt conversion and ailed.

Johnson in '87 (perfect season - beat OU 20-14 in the Orange Bowl).

Erickson in '89 and '91.

I would have guessed Oklahoma (Wilkenson, Fairbanks, Switzer) - but I checked, and Fairbanks did not follow Wilkenson directly.

The 30 for 30 on Miami was very good.

I highly recommend it if you have not seen it.

Coker was already on staff. The players were very outspoken on not wanting Barry Alvarez to come in and mess things up.
