Everyone knew it was a dumb move. He could have been a star under Wade. Oh well

Again, there was word that his family is hurting financially. He has an opportunity to fix that NOW.

Even if not in the NBA. Overseas pays alright.

That sucks for his family. But plenty of families have to make it work for one year. He could have been a second rounder with a year under Wade.

Plus, you know...things can always be arranged

I hear you. I just think it's sometimes easy to say "make it work for a year" than it really might be.

I'm not sure how going to summer league and getting paid a few thousand to barely pay or show anything will help he and his family. Have you seen that roster? He will be the 5th-6th guard at best. He won't play much

Wasn't gonna shave .4 seconds off his 40 time no matter how long he stayed in school.

Why horrible? He was never going to go from LSU straight to NBA even if he stayed.

He's on the Bulls Summer League team. You'll see him in Vegas

Because he learned ZERO basketball from Johnny Jones. He could have been the centerpiece of a pretty good team with a good coach. Going into professional basketball he is known as a player with good athleticism, smallish for a 2-guard, streaky shooter, pathetic defender, and low IQ. Several of those he could have improved

My guess is he knew he wasn't going to get much interest from NBA teams this year, outside of the summer league, but that he's willing to go overseas to play, make decent money in the time being and hopefully develop enough to get a chance at the NBA if he does well overseas and in the summer league.

Of course this was a huge mistake. It was even more of a head scratcher when he found out who the coach would be and still left. I have a feeling this will be one of those cases we'll always look back and say "what could have been". And that'll be multiplied if players returning from last year really excell under Wade.

I understand people say his family needed money, but like someone mentioned, what's another year when they've already gone this long. Especially, if you're talking about potential hundreds of thousands of dollars more or even a couple million or so.

Absolutely, I felt like he was never truly focused at LSU. I can't remember a guy's career going as quickly as AB's

I also think Blakeney could have been a Buddy Hield type of senior. I think under Wade, he would have made huge strides in his game and been able to better showcase his talents.

Hield was a lottery pick as a senior, which is very rare in today's NBA. I'm not saying AB would have been a lottery pick, but if he progressed enough, a late 1st round pick wouldn't have been impossible, and maybe he lucks up and goes higher. At worst, he improves and becomes a 2nd round pick, in which case he's still in a much better position than he is now.

Seems like I could go on and on about why he should have stayed. Out of all our athletes who have gone pro early in the big 3 sports recently, him leaving early was what I believe was the biggest mistake of them all.

All that said, I wish AB the best of luck. Hopefully, he progresses and can eventually make it to the NBA and get some NBA money. If not, I hope he can at least make a good career for himself overseas.

Very true. Maybe that's not what they wanted to do, which is worrisome for AB, in my opinion.

One of the biggest reasons pro athletes go broke after making lots of money, is trying to take care of too many people who don't want to help themselves and just leech off the athlete.

Helping your parents and siblings out a little bit if you have a lot of money is one thing. However, paying for everything for them while they don't even attempt to help themselves is a completely different thing. Hopefully for AB, it's not the latter.

Eta - I obviously don't have a clue about his family's situation and if he'll be helping them or not. Just talking points.

Sadly, an LSU footnote now. Wade might've kicked his talented arse into gear.
