Has a team ever won the SEC and not gotten in?

LSU could hypothetically win out and win the SEC but their RPI would still be garbage and if they go one and done in the SEC tourney (I realize they'd have a double bye) they could be left out. It's a crazy scenario to think about a Power 5 team winning their conference but no invite to the big dance. Thoughts?

It's technically possible since automatic bids are only awarded to the conference tournament winner, but highly unlikely.

Washington won the Pac-10 a few years ago and didn't make the dance. THe Pac-10 was crap that year. Arizona and UCLA weren't any good.

if (big IF) LSU wins out they are in the NCAAT, no matter what happens in the SECT.

2 Wins v UK, including the last game of the year on their floor for the SECC....

Yep, that would be enough to get LSU in the dance.

Think Bama 2011. Beat tournament final four team Kentucky and tournament entry Georgia TWICE, finished 12-4 in conference regular season, snubbed by NCAA, NIT runnerup

We're not winning the SEC this year, so moot point.

I think Bama won the SEC West in basketball (back when the SEC still had divisions for basketball ) that year

But if they win the SEC regular season Automatic NIT bid!

I don't rule this team out for anything. If Antonio goes off, Tim hits his shots, you know Ben is good for 20. Only thing that worries me is CV getting phantom fouls called on him and getting in foul trouble. Ben has allowed some open shots at the rim to not get the and 1 for not fouling, but getting called anyway.

I would feel better if we had Keith back, but it is not like we don't have a talented team that can make a run at any given time.

Shaq, Chris Jackson, Pistol Pete and Stromile Swift could walk in the door and JJ couldn't coach them to win out. Ain't happening OP.

Yep, that would be enough to get LSU in the dance.

If we win the next two games, then lose 1st round of the SEC tourney we will have an RPI still right around 80. No chance we get in.

Yea, we won the west that season. 12-4 with wins over UK, UGA (twice) who both made the tourney but we got snubbed. It happens sometimes. That selection committee can be a fickle bunch.

With all due respect, Bama that year deserved to get snubbed. Winning the West division within the last few years the conference had divisions was like winning the cripple fight among the 6 teams. Almost any loss in that division was gonna be crippling. Simply playing the West teams hurt you. Bama didn't help themselves in non-conference that year either.
