In order for our offense to improve, we must involve Harris to a much greater extent in the running game. We now have a backup QB who looks like he can play, so an injury to Harris would not be a catastrophe. Harris seems to be improved ,but there are still things that concern me. He still seems to zero in on one receiver (Malachi right now). His presence in the pocket was better. Hope he continues to improve as a passer, but the coaches have to use him in the run; this would also make Fournette that much better.

I think the backs can take care of the running. It was nice to see BH hit his check downs a couple times, but its never wise to make assumptions about the reg season based on a spring game.

This is key. Harris is clearly the starter, but I think they'll have enough faith in Etling to let Harris run significantly more this year. And you're right, it'll make the offense that much better. Whether it's picking up 8'on 1st and 10, making the front 7 hesitate just a bit on a read option to Fournette, or just scrambling to pick up a 1st down on 3rd and 7, I think Harris 's feet will play a big role in this offense. Or at least it should.

Read option is fine every now and then but the key is the intermediate passing game.

With the threat of run, Harris will have more options open as a passer.

They can all be key pieces. And they should if we are to be at our most efficient. shite, Jamarcus's big arse rumbling for 1st downs was a big part of our '06 offense. No need apologizing for having an athletic QB.

Part of his progression. He will run if given the opportunity. Has wheels. Will use. He looks stronger.

Agree completely. Harris ability to move the chains with his feet are one of the main reasons we recruit mobile QBs.

Some zone reads will open up the field for the passing game as well as LF7.

It won't happen. If we ran an offense like Auburn, the read option that has a run, pass, handoff option they would be unstoppable. Which is why Etling should start. I'd rather a true pocket passer in cams offense.

Why is running Harris such a bad idea?

I don't care for OP's use of the word must. If you are rooting for an offense that will include a running QB, you are rooting for the wrong team.

LSU relies on a physical running game with an explosive passing attack set up by said physical running game. whether or not that "explosive passing attack" will be realized has yet to be seen, but these threads about Harris' running ability are only setting people up for disappointment.

thats not to say that Harris can't, or won't, I am just saying its not part of LSUs M.O.

He doesn't need to run. But the read option adds a nice wrinkle. He made a couple of nice reads in the SG.

Totally agree! He needs to be more of a threat in read option and keep the ball more often. Harris is a very good runner with plenty of speed, good vision, and good power to finish runs.

Its not.....and we should have been doing this more by design last year when he was struggling with his intermediate and short passes.

And I think it's pretty clear that you're not going to beat Alabama without having a mobile QB.
