Perhaps they purposely ignore rumors and issues like this? It's a very legitimate way to keep a story from escalating.
Not to be political, but that's exactly how Obama handles negative media stories.
Or maybe they just don't give a shite what is reported.

There should never be miscommunications like this in the first place. The reason official statements are given is to suppress this type of thing.
