I think it would be a decent hire for LSU, and better than Jones. But not a homerun.

In the history of LSU basketball, when did they ever have a homerun hire? (at the time of the hiring, not years later like Dale Brown)

I mentioned him earlier. I saw Goodwin play in a tournament near Atlanta and he's a big body w athleticism. Heard he was a good football player as well.

Regardless, how the Big East looks in the years to come with the moves by some of their bigger basketball (Syracuse and Pitt) fish and UCONN's desire to move as well and the Big East is a shell of itself.

I went to high school with Josh and he'd be a homerun hire. He inherited a Memphis team that lost 3 players to the draft and 3 more to Cal who took them to KY or lost them to other schools. He had 3 of the top players in the country committed last year at one time and can recruit the city of Houston better than anybody in the country.

Nic Wise, Jajuan McClellan and others all went to Arizona from Houston b/c of Pastner. Plus he's a decent guy and not a prick like a lot of coaches, which doesn't really mean much but having dealt with Brady it's not a bad thing.

I didn't read the entire thread but I follow Memphis basketball. Surely Pastner wouldn't leave a school where A) He's about to be the head coach of a Big East school and B) He's built a rather solid group of experienced starters that will be back next season C) Plays in a venue where people actually attend games.

Fair points. However, the SEC has more resources and money than the Big East will ever have. The Big East lost two of their biggest basketball schools and are in a tough position of keeping a team like UCONN if anyone else comes calling. So the Big East could very well look like the A-10 soon enough. And the long-term prospects at Memphis, IMO, with the travel and everything, is far lower than LSU.

Some people who know more about Memphis and its basketball are suggesting that he is/was unhappy about the move to the Big East and the fan base is not as pleased with his tenure. May be a situation where, while Memphis is undoubtedly the better job right now, both parties might be looking for a change.

That are realistic possibilities? Not a chance.

Yeah, I agree.

I'd say

Dixon

Pastner

Snyder

Floyd/Jones - don't really care for either of these guys.

Throw some cash at the the first two and make them say no. Snyder is really a high risk/high reward kind of guy.

i doubt it. Memphis is all basketball. It will always be behind football and probably baseball here. If they were great they could surpass baseball, but never football.

With baseball as our 2 you are right, but our basketball team could easily surpass Memphis.

Eta: FTR, I would fap to this hire. Especially after seeing what Miss St did. I pray we don't drop the ball like they did.

Other football first schools are better than Memphis basketball. No reason why we don't have that same possibility. Memphis wants to be Louisville in many regards but they just aren't.

Do you mean the team could be better? Sure on any given year. LSU will not pass Memphis anytime soon (within the next 20 years) when it comes to importance of college basketball and fan support. Memphis hasnt even had great teams the last couple of years and are still 8th in the country averaging almost 17k per game. You severely underestimate how important basketball is in the city of Memphis.

Louisville has more history and probably a little more fan support but its close. LSU, however, isnt close to either school and probably never will be.

From an objective third party observer, Memphis, overall, isn't close to Louisville as far as athletics go.
