Gymnastics home cooking

I know there was a lot of discussion about the “generous” scoring our ladies received last Friday. If you’re thinking we’re getting an advantage, just watch some other meets. I just watched the UCLA/ Arizona meet from UCLA’s home court. UCLA scored over 198, with clearly generous scoring. What we’ve seen awarded a 9.875 in our home meets was given a 9.925 or even 9.95 for UCLA. Stick with it Lady Tigers! You are definitely in the mix for the Final Four!

Oklahoma routinely gets the benefit of the doubt on many of their routines. So I couldn't give less of a shite about a little bit of home cooking

OK Gymnasts routinely get 9.5s or higher simply because of the leos they are wearing.

The scoring was embarrassing but the scoring issues are a major problem across all of NCAA.
There is also a reason RQS drops every teams 'highest' overall score and make you count a specific number of road scorings when calculating the RQS averages for seeding purposes.

With the home and away cooking Oklahoma gets, a little PMAC home cooking doesn’t bother me at all.

Who does the scoring? Aren't there officials from the SEC handling that?
I have heard about the judges being generous as a reason to generate interest and excitement, like when Haleigh Bryant scored three perfect 10's in a meet last year. Then when it gets to tournament time the judges get picky.
Is that true or is it BS?

There were routines that were under scored for us also. Works out at the end.

This is why I don’t consider these completions as a “sport”. If scoring is based on opinion, it’s not a real sport.

If everyone else is getting generous scoring and we are as well.... I'm ok with that. Seems a lot of generous scoring going on this year.

Gymnastics is absolutely a sport. It just isn’t a competitive sport. It is a judgement sport. You cannot call anything a competition if a 3rd party is determining the winner based upon their opinion.

Baseball is a sport.
Gymnastics is an athletic competition. There's no objective metrics. (Cross Home Plate. Put the Ball in the Hoop. Knock the Pins Down, etc.)

I think it is subjective vs objective.
Gymnastics is absolutely competitive, but the scoring is subjective rather than objective.
Non-competitive sport would be things that are un-scored, with no winners.

If we’re using the same metrics as some here, then no.
A gymnast on the balance beam has certain skills that have to be hit to gain parts of their total score. Those skills are either hit or they’re not. Just as a ball is either fair or foul in baseball. Doesn’t mean that sometimes an umpire’s opinion about fair/foul or safe/out doesn’t come into play.
