Guilbeau's take on current QB situation

After completing 8 of 12 passes with no interceptions and throwing two touchdowns in the first half for a 17-7 lead against Tennessee, Lee did not start the second half. Former starter Jordan Jefferson did.

But still, Lee's got to be wondering. Here's a guy who has helped his team to a 7-0 record and No. 1 ranking in the nation with the best string of games in his career, and a string of games that Jefferson has never come close to matching in his inconsistent career. Lee happens to be third in the Southeastern Conference and 22nd nationally today in passing efficiency at 152.43 based on his .601 completion percentage, 10 touchdowns and only one interception.

It's an unconventional quarterback rotation to say the least. Jefferson has replaced Lee this season when Lee was playing well and has not played as well as Lee. And he may yet start. Lee replaced Jefferson last year when Jefferson was playing poorly and played better. And he never started.

“It’s as though he was trying to create a quarterback controversy,” a Knoxville columnist said of LSU coach Les Miles' quarterback switch Saturday. “Why else would he have played Jefferson so much?”

Miles was asked after the game how he told Lee that he was not starting the second half after such a good first half. Miles bristled and was uncharacteristically short and angry with his answer.

“It wasn’t any NOT starting the second half,” Miles said. “We got the ball on the goal line. We had to come off the 1-yard line. The play we were going to call was going to have 9 (Jefferson) in it. It had nothing to do with Lee not starting. This is a play, a particular play. And it ended up being a drive.”

That was a very unconventional explanation. It was also incorrect. LSU’s first possession of the second half started on its 34. The drive that started on the 1 was LSU’s next drive. But that’s not the point. The point is Miles wants to play Jefferson, period, and he is tired of having to explain himself. Miles' record speaks for itself.

It's definitely weird. I'm tired of talking about it, and have accepted the fact that Miles really, really wants to use JJ a lot. It might work; it might backfire.

I personally don't like it, but (A) there's not much to talk about anymore that hasn't already been talked about, and (B) it's nowhere near as bad as what Miles did to the team in 2009 & 2010, so I'm a relatively happy camper.

Contrary to popular belief, Miles very much understands x and o s.
Miles obviously believes JJ will be needed at some point so he's giving him playing time.

So far it's worked and it's hard to say Miles is wrong ....that is of course unless you are Glen Gilblow

I am afraid that this is what Miles has done. I have been very impressed with the way Lee has handled this so far, but I am afraid that he will become discouraged if Miles continues to increase JJ's role.

Last season JJ played about as poorly as a QB could play for the 1st 7 games, and Lee outplayed him pretty clearly for a while, but was never rewarded with extra playing time. By the end of the season he did not play as well when he did get his chances.

Only among a confused few fans and sportswriters who desperately want to write on that angle.

I thought it was a good move by Miles. He waited until Lee had some success too.

I do think we try too hard to get JJ involved. We're forcing it, and thus disrupting the flow of the offense.

Things just don't feel the same since the first 4 games. That's my take anyway.

So, he doubts the coach who's team is #1. Even if there's any truth to it, Miles has the right to say STFU!

I agree. I don't understand this at all. From hearing it from an un biased commentator in Herbstreit, he doesn't get it either. The players can be "cool" with it all they want, fact is that it does impact and disrupt the "rhythm" or the "sync" any way you slice it. Our passing game needs to develop a lot more before we head into the 'Bama game. Now I'm all for Lee, he has played the best, by far in my opinion and that's a tough fact to debate. But for the improvement of the team, to develop our passing game, you gotta pick one. JJ or Lee, make your pick. The rotation is going to screw things up.

Honestly, it doesn't bother me. It looks JJ coming in settles Lee down. That throwing off the backfoot is gonna catch up with lee so i applaud Les limiting his throws and utilizing JJ to play to the teams strengths which is to pound the ball get the defense worn out then bring Lee in to throw some bombs...Championship bytches.
