Glenn Guilbeau, who covers Louisiana State University sports and the New Orleans Saints for The Town Talk and four other Gannett Louisiana newspapers, has won the individual sweepstakes award in Class I at the Louisiana Sports Writers Association's annual awards banquet held Suanday in Natchitochesy.

Guilbeau got two first-place writing awards, two second places and a third. One first place was in college columns for a piece that compared University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow to the "most interesting man in the world" in the Dos Equis beer commercials.

Another first place for Guilbeau was in spot news for a story written on signing day in 2009 about LSU coach Les Miles removing a scholarship offer to former Bastrop receiver DeAngelo Benton so he could make sure he signed Rueben Randle -- the No. 1 receiver in the nation also out of Bastrop.

Guilbeau also had a second place in prep features on Randle's positive impact on his town that was economically depressed from a paper mill closure in Bastrop.

Despite all the Miles’ booth lickers, I don’t always agree with Guilbeau, but this time he is right on the money on this one.

So the Louisiana sports writers gave him a few awards. Dude everybody gets awards at those kind of functons. It's kind of like Cub Scout Award Night for grown ups.

Just a little dab of the level of professionalism exhibited there. From the link you cited, first paragraph:
"Sports Writers Association's annual awards banquet held Suanday in Natchitochesy."
Real impressive big time journalism stuff huh?

I personally dont give a shite how he does it if its within the rules

Miles - Players love and respect him. Recruits love and respect him. He has integrity, runs a clean program and is decisive in handing out discipline, even when it hurts the team (Perrilloux). He is good with the media and fans alike.

When the HC of the team I pull for is making 3.75 mil, I'm more concerned about results and the product on the field, not whether the players like him and think hes a great guy.

I played for several coaches that I didnt necessarily love, but I respected the shite out of em cause the taught me alot and got the most out of me

If the offensive line can actually dominate the line of scrimmage, JJ will suddenly be a vastly improved qb. No Line= no running game= no time to pass = "terrible qb". Fix the O line and it is a completely different situation.
I ain't crazy about Les, but the o line is the key.

You know how many Louisiana writers didn't get ANY award(s)?

You realize who the Judges were? Writers and/or editors from the New York Times, Dallas Morning News, Memphis Commercial Appeal, Chicago Sun-Times, Los Angeles Times, Houston Chronicle, Charlotte (N.C.) Observer and the Kansas City Star.
Cides, all I said was "awards" and that was correct.

If you want to say awards given by writers/editors to sports journalists is any different than the Newberry Award given by American Library Association then go ahead.

Oh good lord.

The hack writers at the Alexandria Town Talk always carry away a bunch of these "awards."

It gives everyone the chance to say they are an "award-winning" journalist.

He reinforces what the opinion is of Miles of the football community outside of LSU. Unless you have P&G glasses, his perception hits dead on. The fact that Saban and Bo P have done so well in such a short time while we reverse course only gives more support for that viewpoint.

So what will you say if Saban and/or Bo lose 3-4 games this year?

All of the Miles bashing is just so dumb. He's our coach, support him. He is a hell of a recruiter, a fun personality and a winner. Look at all the talent Pete Carrol, Mack Brown and Stoopes have had and they are considered elite coaches. Are they better than Miles? I don't think so. People rank guys like Mark Richt above Miles, Petrino, and the like. They havn't won anything, anywhere. There are only a few great coaches I put above Miles. Saban is one of them but he's not coming back. Everyone thinks as soon as Miles is gone we are gonna get someone like Gruden. Seriously, stop kidding yourself. LSU is a great football school. We are gonna have some great years and then no matter who the coach is we are gonna have some not so great years. Saban may be the greatest college coach of this time but he isn't going to win NC's every year. Bama will have 3-5 loss seasons too at some point.

If Bo lost that many games, I would not be as surprised. If Saban lost that many games, I would be surprised but say that he still has never had a losing in conference record while in college, was the reigning SEC and BCS champ, and for the first time in 3 years did not represent the SEC West in Atlanta.

The pro prospects currently on this team is a hard fact to whitewash.

I could really care less what happens at AL or NE. Just stating that we have a bias towards LSU that the rest of the world lacks.
Miles could dump another 7 - 5 this year and use Crowton as an excuse. Bottom line is he is not going anywhere unless we loss 6 + games this year.
And who cares if the rest of the world thinks we have an idiot for a coach.

I care that the rest of the free world and 90+% of the fan base realize we have a lame duck dolt as the head coach. It certainly is not a badge of honor.

I think we can all agree that Guilbeau is the worst. He throws players and coaches under the bus, and does nothing positive for LSU.

So my question for the rant is, what do we do about it? I don't have a solution, but I think a start is, we ban posting his stuff on TD.

I hate to advocate censorship, but when it comes to Guilbeau, I could see the following happening: JJ struggles and he writes how terrible he is. JL comes in and performs well, becomes new starter. Guilbeau writes article about how Miles is racist.

You are comparing Louisiana Sportswriter Awards to the Newberry?
What next, the Nobel?
But I just might be wrong any award given on a "Suanday" in the big town of "Natchitochesy" has to be a really impressive event.
