I started thinking about this the other day when someone posted a thread with old LSU-Auburn highlights. John Ferguson, who was narrating, called the 1969 contest the greatest game in Tiger Stadium during the 1960s. I was there as an 11 year old and agree with him. It was a rare, daytime, nationally televised game. We scored on the first play of the game when backup quarterback Jimmy Gilbert threw a halfback pass in an unusual display of razzle dazzle from Charley McClendon. We won at the end on a George Bevan blocked extra point.

Here is my list:

1950s
Ole Miss 1959 featuring Billy Cannon's Halloween night run. This one is obvious.

1960s
The aforementioned 1969 Auburn game.
Second place is the 1964 Ole Miss game that was won at the end on a two point conversion pass from Billy Ezell to our current radio guy, Doug Moreau.

1970s
I know a lot of people will pick 1979 USC. The noise was deafening that night, especially since it was the first big game with the new upper deck that was completed the year before. I won't argue with that one, but it is not my pick because we lost the game. My pick is Notre Dame 1971. Tiger Stadium was certainly rocking that night as we got revenge for the 3-0 loss the previous year.
Next is Ole Miss 1972, Bert Jones to Brad Davis as time expired.

1980s
The Earthquake Game. Auburn 1988.
ETA And as mentioned below, can't forget the Night it Rained Oranges, Florida State 1982, especially since I consider that the high point of my time in the student section.

1990s
Florida 1997, the first time I can remember storming the field.

2000s
Florida 2007. That was my stadium at its all time peak.
Georgia 2003 is second.

2010s
Most of the games in 2011 and 2019 were blowouts. Alabama 2014 was a classic, but again, I am not going to pick that one because we lost in overtime.
My pick is Ole Miss 2014. The Rebels were undefeated and highly ranked. Our last minute win was so exciting, the long time Tiger fan and season ticket holder down the row from me died of a heart attack, God rest his soul.

2020s
Last year's Alabama game.

So many great ones to choose from. I was at all of them, except for the Billy Cannon game when I was one year old.

No indeed not. That was a god-awful game. That TD at the end was our only points. It was a great moment in a shite game.

The FSU Oranges game was probably the best game of the 80’s. Winner goes to a New Years Day Bowl; fog rolls in; exciting, high scoring game that LSU runs away with; and the oranges raining down. It was the most fun game in Tiger Stadium I’ve ever attended.

Okay. I will agree with the Night it Rained Oranges. That was the high point of my time in the student section.

And right, 1997, not 1987. Typo.

You could say the same thing about the 1972 Bert Jones to Brad Davis game against Ole Miss. The last drive and TD of the game made it special as it felt from the stands that Ole Miss dominated the rest of the game. Auburn’s phenomenal defense dominated LSU in 1988 but the last ditch drive and TD by Hodson & Co. made that game a classic.

You could say the same thing about the 1964 LSU-Ole Miss game. 11-10 LSU victory; but game dominated by Ole Miss from the middle of the first quarter until late in the game after an Ole Miss fumble set LSU up in great field position to score a TD and the remarkable Ezell to Moreau winning two-point conversion.

Back in those days great football teams had great defenses, and I never thought any of those games were boring. And, after Moreau caught that winning 2-point pass, which was tipped by Robin Luke of Ole Miss, there was an eruption from the crowd which resembled the Earthquake Game 24 years later.

LSU never generated any offense in 1959. Ole Miss dominated that game except for that punt return.

In the 2010s we had that game against Florida that Tom Cruise attended and raved about. Believe that was the one where we ran a fake FG fora TD where Domingue bobbled it and somehow held on and it turned out to be the winning score
