your generation gets your feelings hurt to quick. If a player sucks, and the coach says he sucks, I got no problem with that. chances are everyone knows it already anyway. "thrown under the bus" is such a pussy phrase. if you get your feelings hurt by the coach, then you shouldn't be playing sports. coaches use to knock the frick out of players when they fricked up. nobody cried about it. nobody went home and told daddy the coach hit me.

I don't care if a coach does it behind closed doors. I do care if he does it in public. It's unnecessary.
In the end PM gets paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to win championships. If he thinks he can do that by treating players differently and being an a, okay fine. Only if that means he's getting the most out of his players and teams. he's not.

Oh shut the frick up old man. Nobody gives a shite if Paul speaks his mind to his team and players in the locker room or on the practice field. But he gets off on telling the whole world how much he thinks his players suck. He's the childish one.

You sound like a total douche bag. Of course its fine to roast a player in the locker room if need be....you just don't do it in the media to try to absolve your own shortcomings. Now kindly

IDGAF what generation you're from that type of interaction needs to stay behind the scenes.

Man who knows what the true underlying causes of the transfer are?
The kid could be homesick or have a girlfriend he misses or just be a little soft and not be mentally strong enough to handle PM's style of coaching. If there truly was some perceived mistreatment of his son I highly doubt that Paul Byrd would have said anything complimentary of PM. Just because a kid is the son of a former Tiger great doesn't mean he is built of the same stuff. Good luck to the young man.

“We ask a lot of our players here. It’s a lot of pressure on these kids from the coaches, media, public. Some kids thrive in that environment, and other kids it’s not quite the right thing for them.”
I see nothing wrong with this statement.
You guys need to decide whether these guys are grown men or kids.
I see it all the time. "Why can't an 18 year old grown man serve his country but not have a beer?"
Then a situation like this and it's "These are 18yr old kids. We need to hold there hand and coddle them"
Well which is it? Are they grown men or kids?

An 18-20 year old is chronologically a man but maturity comes on an individual basis. Young men are not used to many situations they find themselves having to deal with nor emotions that are complicated and present challenges which they have never dealt with before. Yes an 18 year old is a man under the law but he has to mature into being a real man and it happens at a different pace for every individual.

But, Byrd didn't leave because of public comments. This thread is about Byrd being unable to take internal criticism and being challenged to get better. Instead of being motivated by that, it zapped the fun out of the game for him. I'm not sure how that could reflect positively on Byrd.

Then if there were 70 players taken out of high school in the last four years,
There have not been 70 newly signed baseball players TOTAL in the last four years.
For there to have been 70 HS players signed by LSU over the last 4 seasons, it would mean an average of 17.5 HS players signed per year.
The LARGEST incoming classes (both HS and JC transfers) since 2012 were 13 players in 2012 & 2014. There were 10 new recruits in 2013 and 12 in 2015. That means there was a TOTAL of 48 new incoming players over the last 4 seasons.
Of those 48 new players, 35 were straight out of high school.
So your number is off by an error factor of 100%.
quote:
Do you know how many kids that were recruited out of high school actually finished their senior year in the last four years? 7
Also incorrect. There have been 11 players who signed with LSU out of HS over the last 4 years and who played through their senior year.
1) Chris Sciambra-2015
2) Jared Foster-2015
3) Kurt McCune-2014
4) Mason Katz-2013
5) Alex Edward-2013
6) Kevin Berry-2013
7) Chris Cotton-2013
8) Grant Dozar-2012
9) Tyler Hanover-2012
10) Beau Didier-2012
11) Austin Nola-2012
19 players who came to LSU out of HS were on the roster last year and are still on the roster for next season.
1) Michael Papierski
2) Kramer Robertson
3) Greg Deichman
4) Hunter Devall
5) Jared Poche
6) Austin Bain
7) Doug Norman
8) Jake Fraley
9) Beau Jordan
10) Bryce Jordan
11) Jake Godfrey
12) Alden Cartwright
13) Jake Latz
14) Alex Lange
15) Jesse Stallings
16) Ryan May
17) Russell Reynolds
18) Parker Bugg
19) Hunter Newman
I've only read the last couple of pages in this thread when I came to your incorrect statements about the number of players out of HS so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. But you'd probably be more convincing if you attempted to use correct numbers to support your premise.

I don't see anything that PM said that should be viewed as throwing a player under the bus at all.

Kevin berry transferred in from uno, he didn't sign with lsu out of high school.

Without the poster comparing LSU player retention to other high profile public universities, not the Vandy's who can conjure up $ for players out of mid-air, it really doesn't matter what he wants to imply. Not like a lot of kids who leave are getting a full ride, and if you are not a starter or getting significant playing time, why not leave for more playing opps if the player loves the sport? Then one has to consider the change in types of players being recruited during the new bat era, mistakes that were made by overthinking the small ball/dead bats, etc.
I am just glad to read the concept of having a 3rd and 4th quality starting pitcher seems to have become fully apparent to PM as what he has tried to do the last 2 seasons has been extremely risky the more pitchers one sends to the mound during a game.

First of all, thank you for not responding "Under Cover". I guess you are proud of this one. I did not count the 2015 class. They have not shown up yet. I said the "last four classes", but I guess I should have been more specific.
Second, you are correct. 70 players didn't "sign", but that is not what I said. I said, "if there were 70 players taken out of high school in the last four years."
Third, you are wrong about the largest "incoming class". What did you do? Go back and count the freshman on each years roster? Hilarious. You actually align the facts in your favor by saying that I said "sign", and then talk about "incoming". Did you know that in 2011 alone, 21 offers for roster spots went out? 18 showed up. Three were drafted. Did you know that 18 roster spots were offered in 2012? Did you know that 14 roster spots were offered in 2013? And, did you know that 16 roster spots were offered in 2014? Maybe you just learned something. Again, reread. Did you know that offers go out to high school kids that are told to go elsewhere before or after fall? Think about it. You can probably think of one or two players, if you think real hard, who disappeared and don't show up on your roster count.
Fourth, at least you know the difference between high school recruits and JUCO transfers.
Sixth, I'm glad you could come up with a small percentage of high school recruits that actually went four years to LSU. The problem is you are incorrect. Have you ever heard of a transfer or a walk-on? Not all were high school recruits. None the less, I'm happy those guys succeeded in doing what most recruits do not. Can you figure out which ones I am talking about? How many does that leave you?
Look, I know that you work very hard to establish your knowledge with this board and show great commitment to the LSU program. And, you have put many years and blogs into it. But, your truth is misinformed. I really think you are trying to be truthful in what you say. But, instead of rebuffing what I didn't say, you need to read what I did say and learn something. It won't hurt you.
