Link has tables and numbers, etc.

quote:

The average SEC ref flags LSU 6.86 times for 56.63 yards, and has a penalty margin of 1.77-15.51. That's, as we've established above, the worst in the SEC. Ritter seemed to take that as a challenge and he flags LSU an average of 10.14 times for 81.86 yards at a ridiculous margin of 5.29-38.00.

If you remove Ritter from LSU's averages, LSU gets flagged 6.06 times per game for 49.86 yards at a margin of 1.00 times for 10.89. Still a bad ratio, but it lops off nearly five yards of penalty yard margin from LSU's average. Nearly a third of LSU's penalty margin comes from the games Ritter officiates.

Also, look at the number of LSU games Ritter has worked. He is far and away the least friendly ref to LSU, yet he has worked more LSU games than anyone. Only Owens' crew is in the same ballpark. If LSU fans really want to talk conspiracy, note that the only referee that seems to call a game in LSU's favor has only worked 2 LSU games, and none since September of 2013.

However, the performance of non-SEC refs to SEC refs working LSU games points to the fact that there is no conspiracy. If there was a league-wide mandate to screw over LSU, there is no earthly way that refs from other conferences are in on it. Unless you want to argue that this is all coming from Mark Emmert's office. If there is bias against LSU, it is clearly unconscious and unintentional.

My only issue are the things you can't quantify, like non-calls and situational calls and their impact on the outcome.

it's not a mandate. SEC offices are in Birmingham. Birmingham is Bama territory. The people who work in the SEC offices are Bama fans. Bama favoritism is the general attitude.

Why isn't Auburn getting screwed over if that is the case? They've played for two national titles in the last 5 years--read, a bigger threat to Alabama than LSU has been.

Alabama doesn't hate LSU the way LSU hates Alabama.

Alabama hates auburn in a way you can't fathom unless you grew up in a time when Tulane was good.

If this is all just one big conspiracy to help Alabama, why is LSU the only team getting the shaft?

Didn't want to get involved, but you pressed the right buttons in a good way.

I will try to be as concise as I can. I don't know the actual percentage, but I was told that at one time two out of three SEC officials were from the state of AL or bordering close to it. And that would make sense, seeing as how they meet regularly to grade themselves on the week's performance.

These guys are not full time officials. They have jobs that support their families. Insurance, financial planning, law practice, therapists, etc., they all work w the general public in some way in the particular area they live. Their families' livelihood is dependent their clientele.

It is a very difficult thing to do to stay impartial. Much of it is subconscious. When we eat food or walk, we don't instruct our bodies to perform each task necessary. We are conditioned. It's not hard to imagine that these guys get a lot of flak when judgemental calls go against teams that their clients are inclined to favor. Maybe even to a point it affects them financially.

It's not a conspiracy, it's just human nature. In their hearts, most of these guys just want to be close to the sport they love. They see themselves as impartial and fair, but forces of human nature are subconsciously working against them. And this applies well outside the state of Alabama too.

Auburn has influence in the SEC office too. Yeah Bammer hates them some Aubie. But its the two princes who will kill each other to take the crown for themselves. Still have to leave some influence for your blood. Its a Alabama state thing as in state pride and then there is the Aubie vs Bama deal. Weird, shady politics in the Yellow Hammer state.

It isn't always the number of penalties, it's also the critical, questionable penalties that have a huge factor in the game.
