What do yall think? He always seems lately to come in and face the minimum in his one or two innings of work.

Just my thoughts.

Doesn't have the control, he walks like 1 guy an inning when he coms in relief it seems. You cant be a closer and have a high percentage to walk someone in the 9th inning.

I'd rather him be long relief or even start over close.

ETA: Newman, that is.

No on Godfrey. I think that this pen presents a unique situation in which you could really have closer by committee. I understand that a lot of times bullpen pitchers are more comfortable when they have a well defined role, but I think that this group could be an exception. If one guy emerges, so be it.

I thought he would have gotten the nod over Bouman this weekend... but instead, we wasted him on a 7 run lead.

Person is the obvious choice. He has one of the best WHIPs on the team.

But then who's your lefty out of the pen in the mid/late innings?

My thinking too, since Bouman was only starting midweek before. Start a senior from Missouri on Senior Day against Missouri. Even if Bouman had pitched fairly well, I think Bain would've come in before long.

That's the only conclusion I've come up with

I'm not a matchup guy like PM is, but I don't like not having a lefty choice mid game.

of course you would like one. but latz isnt pitching this year so you are fricked in that regard. i also dont like having no one to pitch the 9th.

Bugg, Newman, and Godfrey can pitch against righties and lefties in the 7th and 8th.

Not for closer... just as a reliable reliever.

He's on the list, just no far up it. The only guys I' put below him for sure are Bouman, Devall and Cartwright.
