re: Give J Jeff His Due

Michael J, I now understand the ignorance that fuels your comments. I am sure you are a nice fellow - a well meaning, hardworking, blue collar type....who didn't actually go to LSU. For your benefit, let me tell you a bit about one Jeff Wickersham
He played QB for LSU for 3 years in the early 1980's. At that time, you would have only been 12 or 13 years old, and you obviously were more focused on piano lessons and dance recitals than you were LSU football.
During his three years as the quarterback for LSU, Jeff threw for 7,000 yards. That was the 3rd most total yards in the history of the SEC.
JW was also the first LSU QB to throw for more than 5,000 yards, and the first to throw for more than 2,000 in 3 different seasons.
He spent much of his time throwing to a guy named Eric Martin, who you probably don't remember as he was playing during your "experimental" phase in middle school.
And you call yourself an LSU fan?

much of the percieved problems with Jefferson were a direct result of the offense we were running in 09 and 10 seasons. Only throwing the ball down the field when down and distance dictated it. Other than that, we ran the ball or tried to throw underneath the defense, right into the teeth of the defense as defensive coordinators stacked the box knowing what was coming. It wasn't untill the second half of the Alabama game, when the coaching staff knew that if their was going to be any chance of a victory, they were going to have to display confidence in Jefferson and let him throw over the top at times when the defense wasn't waiting for it. Very few QB's would have thrived in the offense that Crowton/Miles were running for most of 2009/2010.
I believe this conservatism was a direct result of the 08 season. The season of the now infamous 'pick sixes'

He's earned everything he has received in that game alone.

JJ also holds the record for longest by an LSU qb. I think thequad is on to something.

His running ability improved from last year, I will give him that.

With greater stability at the coordintor position and firm direction from Coach Miles, J Jeff will show the world what's it like to represent Tiger Nation with pride and panache. I think most of us can agree on that
Then you should be able to say the same thing about J Lee. Or are you racists and bad coaching only applied to JJ cause you in love with him.

Expect Steve Kragthorpe to make some adjustments that allow J Jeff to showcase his talents.
JJ is probably the best QB we've ever had at rolling right and throwing a completion.
But since you can't do that every down because it's easy to defend just one side of the field, he is one of the worst chain movers we've ever had as a pocket passer. Outside of Tex AM & maybe Bama, when he throws long, we pray. When he throws short, we punt.
He's definitely mobile and is considered fast. But in order run the option successfully, you have to be quicker than fast and have vision, neither of which he showed consistently us last year.
So I'm not sure what adjustments Krags can make outside of calling "Roll Right & Pass" more often.

The gentleman was one of the most recruited QBs in all the land coming out of high school.
You obviously don't follow recruiting because he was not "one of the most recruited QB's in all the land". He was considered a sleeper as a 3-star by Scout. Which apparently is what he was doing during team meeting two-minute drills before the Ole Miss & Tenn games.
quote:
His occasional struggles were likely a result of lazy receivers and a poor offensive coordinator.
His struggles weren't occasional, they were evident drive-after-drive in all but two games. For the record, the dude has had D. Byrd, Brandon Lafell, Richard Dickson, Jared Mitchell, Terrence Toliver, Rueben Randle, Deangelo Petersen, R. Shep, & Kadron Boone through out his career. Occam's Razor would suggest that his struggles weren't a result of a perfomance collapse by 9 talented receivers, but rather by the passer himself.

I like the optimism and hope it turns out true, especially if he ends up winnning the starting job.

Once again, J Jeff stands tall on the Big Stage. Thanks J Jeff for being You!

It is one thing to love Lee, but it s another to be unable to comprehend that JJ got it done against Bama. LSU fans get this. Lee only fans don't. I think Lee should be the starter, but let JJ get the credit he deserves for getting the O moving and not turning the ball over...both of which were necessary in beating Bama.

I don't think anyone hoped we would lose to bama. honestly, my friend put it best the other day. Bama Defense is made to eat up immobile QBs. So we put in the QB we run with, run as much as we can. Eek out a solid 9-6 win.
That being said Lee should be our starter moving forward.

It is odd that some LSU fans seem more interested in bashing J.Jeff than rooting for what's best for LSU.
I like Lee. Like women, he's come a long way. But J.Jeff's leadership is almost legendary at times. They will talk about the Bama game and how he put the team on his shoulders for the next 50 years....not just in Louisiana, but throughout the entire gulf coast region. It was truly amazing.
Let's give credit where credit is due.
