I’m willing to accept that Paul is having a hard time since his father’s passing. These are two men who shared a passion for baseball. I imagine that anytime he gets in that dugout, he thinks of his dad.

Aside from that, the subpar season shouldn’t be accepted as the norm. I don’t think Mainieri wants it to be the norm either. If he wants to retire, let him. Otherwise, he needs to revisit the makeup of this staff.

The players need to have a more focused approach. The issues of the coach have filtered down. This is not indicative of Mainieri’s coaching ability. I’m just hopeful he can find peace within himself soon, and maybe...just maybe...we can get things rolling.

He’s not getting fired after one bad season. You people that think this need a reality check.

He isn’t getting fired. I’m wondering if he wants to retire.

Players can not be happy with Paul after this kind of crap.

C'mon! His father was 90 years old. I don't care how close you are to your parents, at that age, and after they have been ill for a time, you should be emotionally prepared to move on. Sure you continue to miss them but it certainly shouldn't be used as an excuse for poor job performance.

Now the staff issues are another matter. There has to be changes made asap.

Well there's the problem right there.

Everyone deals with it differently. He didn't only lose his dad, his kids lost their grandfather and so forth.

I would expect it's a strain on him. He and his dad are HOF coaches, so almost undoubtedly they were very close.

But he should just get over it because you're upset about the baseball program. Forgot the program revolves around what you want.
Way to be sympathetic.

What a jerk.

It can go two ways, either he wants to come back and kind of have a season for his father in where he’s recharged, focused and we get the best CPM possible. But sometimes guys his age lose a parent and they prioritize family above all els. If it’s the latter he needs to retire and enjoy his family, if it’s the former, like I said he’ll likely be the best version of Paul Mainieri.

This was his "One more year". Sorry about his Dad and all that but last year was not good. This year is a disaster. He makes a million dollars a year to coach the LSU baseball team and he has failed for 2 years.

Time is up.

On top of his dads passing, this team has been devastated by injuries. Some of our best pitchers that we were going to heavily rely on can’t play. I don’t care how deep your staff is but when several of your key pitchers are out, it affects the team. Now hitting wise, we just need to hire an actual hitting coach

I just don't see any sense of urgency with CPM period....his pitching decision have cost us way too many games over the years....im just ready for a change and a fresh start....our program is just not headed in a good direction at all...

We are 3 Games behind Arkansas. After the result of that series and the Auburn series we should then start talking about a change or not. If we sweep Arkansas we all look like emotional unhinged haters. Season ain’t over yet....

Great so we have to look forward to another season like this? Let’s just hope that PM is burned out and wants to go after this year

Any other excuses? Did he have a tummy ache before the Tech game that we need to take into account?

Last year they lost year in the regional round. The same is going to happen this year. That is a bad season at LSU. I agree he is not going to be fired but losing in the regional round is not good enough

Sorry, he’s a grown man making a million plus per year to do a job. His dad was 90. There are construction workers who would be fired if they couldn’t get their head in the game at work, why is Paulie deserving of kid gloves treatment?

Ok let’s see one bad year..
15-15 last year in the SEC west finished tied for 4th.
Didn’t host a regional.
Almost lost to Northwestern State in the regional up in Oregon.
Who knows about this season? It sure isn’t going good.. I think that means 2 straight bad seasons.

Is it just one bad year though? How many bad years have been saved by some out of the blue, miracle run? I think he just relies on that happening because it always does, but it hasn't this year.

The man is 61 years old and is breaking down in tears in a postgame press conference months after his 90 year old father passed away. The man needs to retire and focus on his mental health
