In his blog today GG, who's niece attends Georgia says Georgia is a better school than LSU. Harder to get into and better dorms. Athens, he says, is the best college town in America.

Just confirms what we already know about this guy.

It is a better school - not debatable

Athens is a better college town than BR - debatable, I guess...

Well, he's probably right. UGA is a really good school and from everything I've heard, Athens is amazing. Not anything bad about LSU as it is that UGA is probably a pretty sweet place to go to school

For what?

I can guarantee you that I wouldn't have the great job that I have right now if I had gone to UGA.

Guess it depends on what you're looking at.

Overall, the academics are better at UGA. They are rated higher than us in most publications.

How do the measure the "overall academics" of a school?

I majored in engineering at LSU and I work with a shitload of other engineers. I've met engineers from all over creation, but I've never met an engineer from UGA.

So if I want to be an engineer, is UGA a "better school", or is LSU a "better school"?

I'm an educated man, but I can't speak intelligently on which school has the better academics.

FWIW...Athens is an awesome town. I'll definitely be going back.

I think they just look at engineering.

Exactly.

Which is why I think it's stupid ANYTIME people make all-encompassing statements about the value of an education from any school relative to any other school.

If you want to be a lawyer:

LSU < Harvard

If you want to work with the Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries, or (dare I say) be an engineer:

LSU > UGA

So how can one ever say that "overall" School A > School B? How is this measured/quantified?

These comparisons can only be made in the context of an individual person and their aspirations.

As sad as it is he's right... LSU is catching up in academics but as far as college towns we are nowhere close to Athens.

That's because we are not located in a college town.

If the "A" in UGA stood for Atlanta, it would be the suck as a college town.
