As he should. They've been great this year. Maybe I need to watch it again, b/c it didn't seem like the guy was saying anything negative.

before the lunch presser today someone (maybe hawthorne) said that miles reacted that way bc of some comments the florida players made about last year's game (hammer/nail). the question was probably a positve one as he was basically going to say the result this year was the opposite of last yr. but miles was trying to give his team last yr some credit.

He didn't get what the reporter was trying to imply/ask but if he did he's a bozo for actually believing LSU was anything but hammered in Gainesville last year.

His response had nothing to do with whether or not we were hammered last year or if we pounded the hell out of Florida saturday. His entire "rant" was about it being unnecessary to put stupid terms like that to it because at the end of the day, it's two teams playing their asses off for 3-4 hours and there's no need to demean that by saying one was a hammer and one was a nail. He was taking up for his players last year AND taking up for Florida this year.

I just re-watched it and I still love it. CLM is a great coach and he is all about LSU!

You just won the game with possibly the best coaching gameplan of the CLM era and this was the only question he could come up with?

GG defends the reporter without once questioning if the question was phrased poorly. He doesn't acknowledge that the "hammer and nail" could be seen as offensive to both LSU and Florida, and possibly just the wrong way to phrase the question. Ask a poor question and you run the risk of getting blasted. The reporter could have simply asked, "Les, do you feel you guys turned the table on Florida and beat them in the same style and manner as you were beat last year?" We wouldn't be here today discussing this had he rephrased the question. GG writing an article defending the reporter , instead of mentioning the possibly that the reporter could be at fault is one-sided, and misguided. It shows that GG will pick anything just to criticize Miles.

If Duncan could have finished his question, Miles would have realized he was being complimentary to the Tigers
That's too easy for Les.

But Miles got all revved up and starting doing his crazy antics and once he got a few snickers from others in the room he kept it going.
Miles looks at these opportunities to get the Rantards on his side by appearing to be anti-reporter.

It was, there was nothing to get upset about. The reporter was using an analogy to get across a point that a gameplan was installed to basically beat the opponent into submission and it was carried out, it wasn't a slight against LSU or Florida. I'm not surprised Les got it all confused, he can't even answer a straight softball question from Holly Rowe at halftime without sounding like a creature from a distant planet.

Miles answered the question...

Saban tears up Sportswriters every week... Everyone exists with tail between their legs..

You people need to get off hatin on Les Miles

He is famous, and we love our coach... His rant was appropriate..because the Media is always trying to make something out of nothing.

6-14 is not a hammer and nail deal... 52-7 is...

The sports writer was just trying to needle Miles while some how making a compliment for his teams performance this year..

He was mad because the writer doesn't understand elite level of competition. The margin is much closer than it may appear

All the Pathetic Pumper People think that Sportswriters should be nothing more than paid Cheerleaders for the schools they are covering.

OP you are way off target- it was a dumb question and shows lack of journalistic integrity

I think you are off target if you think I was in any way supporting GG's opinion of the event.

he was defending the play of his team. he gets to do that.

And it wasn't even just about his team. It was also about Florida and respect for the competition. He knows what their coaches and players put into it also.

Not reading 6 pages of comments on this topic. Here is one thought on the OP.

One of the quotes said that Les's take on the hammer and nail analogy was different but neither was better.

WRONG! Neither game was a blow out as Les pointed out. Les Miles thoughts were to strong team battling for the win is way more accurate than one team dominating the game and being the hammer and the other team just getting pounded all game.
