For those who keep parroting the line that Gainesville first responders are swamped, shelters overflowing with the displaced, and is an all-around hell on earth that can't possibly host a football game 78 or so hours from now, I decided to do some research into what's actually going on (novel concept, I know).

Yeah, it must be run by a UF fan. Can't be too safe given the circumstances!

Playing the game on Monday double-fricks LSU. It would be trying to put the genie back in the bottle.

Ogeron said yesterday that he found out a few minutes before practice that the game was canceled. He informed the team and they changed the practice from Florida game prep to just a general practice. The team is off Today, tomorrow and Sunday, with many leaving BR. Also, most of the coaches are on the road recruiting.

To play on Monday would mean LSU has to get ALL players and coaches back to BR on short notice. So after telling LSU one thing, you now alter their schedule again? frick that!

If I'm LSU, I MAYBE play on 3 conditions:

1. UF or the SEC pays South Alabama's buyout

2. The SEC cuts LSU a check for 10 million dollars to compensate for the revenue lost by canceling a home game OR UF agrees to play at BR on 11/19 AND pays the difference bewtween the cost of the USA ticket and what LSU would have charged if UF was the original opponent

3. A&M agrees to push the LSU game back to Saturday AND the SEC has to compensate ESPN for any loss it incurs by not having a Thanksgiving night game.

LSU didn't create this mess. The SEC did. It's their job to fix it.

Well based on my south Louisiana hurricane experience it wasn't a stretch to imagine that personnel would be thin. BUT if they're back to "normal staffing" by perhaps Friday evening, yeah, we need to play this game. I'd take a MNF game!

I don't know what comments or posts you are referring to but you do realize that first responders from one county are often transferred to other counties in times of disaster, right? I mean, you don't think that since Gainesville was mostly spared that their police officers will be out playing golf tomorrow do you?

What is it, Christmas break or something? Aren't they supposed to be back on Monday anyhow? because.. practice.. and.. school?
Not like they all dispersed to Antarctica for a research mission.

No, I don't, but if it's assumed that some/most/all of them are being reallocated elsewhere in the state, then I also assume that all in-state college football and the Dolphins game are being cancelled as well, and for the same reason.

Why the hue and cry about depleting resources in Gainesville on a Monday but not, say, Tampa (for USF on Saturday)? Or Miami (for the Dolphins on Sunday)?

Well, that would be a shitty assumption.
