So it's a basketball tournament format, essentially.

There goes the NCAA's excuse for not inviting an SEC team to play in a regional "because that team didn't even make the SEC tournament."

Awesome so play 5 games in 6 days to win a championship (that likely doesn’t matter to advance) 4 possibly 3 days before the start of the postseason.

I actually kinda like it. If you’re a top 4 you’re likely not fighting to get into the tournament and may even have a hosting spot locked up and only have to play 3 games max, no more than a normal weekend. The teams that are on the bubble get to get a win or 2 before playing the top 4.

Maybe it doesn't work with 16 teams, but the ACC should have given us a perfect example of a good end of season conference tournament.

I believe the ACC has 12. Just leave 4 SEC scrubs at home and run a tournament like they do. It's far superior to what the sec does now, and what they are planning to do.

Top 4 get to rest all week
What a stupid format
Plus fans want to travel and see their
Team play more than one game
Who wants to go all that way and only see one game

The ACC currently has 14 baseball members (Notre Dame is a full ACC member in everything but football, and Syracuse doesn't have baseball), and leaves the bottom 2 out. I do like the way they do pool play instead of just a bracket like the SEC.

You won't have to worry. By that point in the season you've already given up and claimed to be a fan of a different team.

Yeah the pool play, into single elimination semis is a great format. Top teams are rewarded. It's a max of 4 games. Great format.

Yeah, I was talking about 12 in their tournament.

I should have clarified that the ACC does the same thing as the SEC, in leaving the bottom 2 teams out of their conference tournament. I don't know how that will change with expansion next year, but as is, I like the ACC's format better.

Don’t mind this. as much as I love the atmosphere of 1am baseball games in Hoover, this is a fair setup.

getting the advantage of top 4 to only have to go with your regular weekend rotation to win it all is a nice plus. Makes the regular season have a decent payoff if you can avoid having to play 5 games and won’t have to worry about wearing down your bullpen prior to regionals.

pool play like in the ACC also would’ve been acceptable.

maybe don’t finish in the bottom half of the conference? The more emphasis on regular season results the better.

People are always bitching about watering down the regular season in football, yet here expecting a deserved cakewalk in postseason play for a subpar regular season

Are the other power conferences playing their conference tournaments earlier in the week to gain an unfair advantage? No, ok there goes that complaint…

I mean, that was already possible with the current format as well.

While I love double elimination brackets, I like how this largely meaningless tournament (unless you're on the bubble) is making sure that the best teams in the conference aren't killing their pitching with the double bye and single elimination.

16 teams can work but have to use 2 fields for pool play than semi finals and championship game at hoover met

They could do games times:

11,3 ans 77 at hoover met
10,2,6 at regions park

Plus the current format has single elimination semis anyways, so like this year arkansas already beat a&m and it didn't matter because one loss knocked Arky out against a team they already beat. It was a half assed format.

So no more double elimination? I kinda don't like that
