That's 3 in a span of like 20 years. And Copland was what you just described anyways and he was replaced by neighbors his senior year. So nice thread

In time, the position will rise again.

The thing about the proliferation of the spread is that the teams that are sticking to the power run game are becoming unique among their peers. As defenses re-tool to fight the spread with nickel defenses and lightweight linebackers, they are losing the ability to defend the power attack.

Fullbacks will come back into play again as offenses realize the future opportunity awaiting teams that run effectively.

If a guy is 275 lbs and can block and carry and catch, he will be used.
Most guys that size do not have the hand eye coordination or footwork and if they do, they are TE's.

its not like there is a rule against it. If LSU has two guys with those qualities, they will be used in big games with the game on the line.

Ducre is 5'11" 240 in high school and ran a 10.69 in the 100m.

Safe to say he will be get bigger, stronger, and faster at LSU.

Think about a 250 lb bowling ball running that fast.

ETA:

To compare, Copeland was 5'11" 271 at the NFL combine and was significantly slower. He was about 240 in high school, so their sizes are very similar.

He didn't play fullback in 2007.

we didn't have 1000 yard rushing fullback.

The spread taking over the game at LSU.... I doubt it.

Actually, the offensive system that Can Cameron traditionally employs, Air Coryell, usually prefers an extra receiver over the FB.

Does Ducre remind anyone else of a young Michael Turner?

LSU runs more FB Dives than the rest of college football combined

We even do it on 4th and 3 at the end of games

Could see it.

Turner is 5'10" 250 and has more juke and quickness. Ducre will be bigger and has more straight line speed.

But definitely comparable.

I know Cameron has a pro background, didn't realize his connection to Coryell.
Growing up, I absolutely loved Fouts and the Chargers offense. If I remember right, I thought they used the same basic formation (2 backs, 2 WRs, 1 TE), but elevated the TE to almost a slot WR, and also used a lot of passes to the backs downfield. Emphasized getting matchups in the passing game to pull the defense out of position, opening up the run, instead of using brute line-of-scrimmage force with the run to open up the passing game.
We could do that with our personnel right now; Dural would make a nice approximation of Wes Chandler, Diarse actually could slip into the Winslow role as a TE/WR, and Fournette can run routes downfield with the best.
