FSU converted 11/17 3rd downs against us, but the defense is 6/34 over the last 3 games.

God that FSU game was frustrating. We make one less mistake out of 1000 and we win

Side note - we really find out what FSU is made of the next 3 weeks

Oct 1 - Wake Forest at home
Oct 8 - @ NC State
Oct 15 - Clemson at home

I hope they can pull off a couple wins in there. FSU is so long overdue.

We were giving them a free 6-12 yards every time because of our soft zone coverage that game. Very frustrating, but glad we've improved a ton since then.

Could say the same about LSU.

I will forever be an advocate of a warm up game after that one. It would have made a night and day difference imo.

I think about this all the time. shite, just a warm up half!

I also think we win that game in overtime if that kick didn't get blocked. We were surging.

It wouldn't have been as big an issue if both teams were going into the matchup rusty, but FSU did have a warmup game the week before and LSU didn't.

I don't have an issue with starting the season with a non-con P5 game, but I think it is kind of shite that FSU played a cream-puff warm-up before us to shake off any rust.

Yep. If we play Southern first, we're 4-0 right now.

I think what you saw that game was a coaching staff who wasn't quite (and couldn't be) sure of what personnel best fit what the staff wanted to do and what approach best fit the personnel. While you could say the same for every team in college football, the first 4 games of this year have been almost like a preseason for LSU spent troubleshooting to figure out the best approach/players. Not only did Matt House not recruit any of the players he was tasked to coordinate, he had not coached in the college game for 3 seasons. There was always going to be necessary learning curve for both players and coaches. While there are certainly much better offenses on the horizon, over the last 4 weeks we've seen House and the players become more comfortable and knowledgeable of who and what works, and who and what doesn't.

That loss was on Polian - no excuse, even in first game of the season, for that.

It was Kelly's first game. FSU is in year 3 of Norvell. That's the difference. Once Kelly is in year 3 or 4 we're gonna win no matter who we play.

Half the issues on the defense over the last 2 years was not being able to finish plays off on 3rd down. FSU this year, Auburn and Ark last year. Both made huge 3rd down plays when we should’ve had the qb sacked. All 3 ultimately played into us losing the games.

I mean we find out about us the next 9 weeks really minus the game against UAB...and that game wont be as easy as people think it will be either.
